Riley's P.O.V
I nervously chew on my fingernail as I wait for Lucas and Maya to arrive. Lucas told Maya and I to meet him at my house, because he had apparently made a decision. I feel terrible for telling him I loved him as a brother, I feel like somehow I cheated him. It feels like I'm leading him on or something... Even though he said he made a decision, his 'decision' could very well be choosing no one. I just want this damn triangle to be over. I turn my tv on to some random channel and start trying to pacify myself with the tv show. I try to pretend that I can understand it, I mean, Spanish has never come easy to me.
Someone walks into the apartment. I turn around and feel my shoulder length brunette waves whip my face. I see Maya wearing a floral blouse and flared jeans walk to the sofa I'm on and throw herself next to me.
"Maya, how in the world can you just act so comfortable? Lucas is actually going to make a damn decision!"
She rolls her eyes and says "Knowing Huckleberry, he's probably gonna make no fucking decision Riles. And it's just a decision. Nothing would tear us apart, especially some stupid boy. Right?"
I open my mouth to answer, but the door slams open just in time. Lucas strides towards us and sits on a chair close to us on the sofa.
"Uh, well... I've chosen someone. But I'm not sure if this is the right person for me. Uh, she's pretty. She has a great style, and isn't always the nicest person to me."
My heart falls out of my chest."M-Maya?" I manage to croak out before I start sobbing.
Lucas gets up and takes my hand. "This is why I could never choose anyone. And I'm still not sure if Maya is right for me." He looks at my face just as a tear falls onto my cheek.
"Riley, baby.." He brushes the tear off my cheek and kisses me, softly, but passionately. Maya sits there, sadly trying to ignore the fact that Lucas chose her but he's kissing another girl. Her best friend, in fact.
"Lucas, I can't do this." I say as soon as I pull away from him.
"What? Do what?" He has a confused look on his face as he says that.
"Do, this." I make a motion to indicate the triangle between us all three.
Maya stands up and says in a fake nonchalant voice "Woah. Riles, what are you doing? I thought Lucas was going to actually choose who was perfect for him. You."
Lucas stares into Maya's eyes as she says that, and I swear they're in love.
"Maya, he couldn't make a decision if his life depended on it... Lucas..." I pause my sentence and turn to Lucas, watching him still staring at Maya.
"Doesn't deserve us. The only thing I know... Is that... Maya, we deserve each other. I love you, and I'm not gonna let any boy ruin that."
She looks so touched and hugs me. "Ranger Rick, leave. Us girls have business to do, best friends business, girlfriends business.." Lucas shrugs and says, "If you change your minds, just call me...You took off a load I had ever since finding out Maya liked me." he walks out and Maya smiles.
She seems happy, and I look happy. But little does she know I'm wearing a mask. I'm so heartbroken. I miss Lucas. But right now, I have my best friend with me. That's all that matters, right?
