Chapter 1 - The Unknown Rebel

Thousands of years ago, four countries separated and made themselves unidentified to the rest. All four ignored each other. War broke out between two and peace reigned within the others. In the war, all hope would be lost, and in the peace, the anticipation would rise. All that would occur was the demand for more protection from one problem. Demons and monsters. New ones would come everyday. Even in the peaceful moments, they would barge in and attack anything that would be seen moving.

But in each country, stood people with no fear, helping others, caring for them only. Those people and what they did became separate legends, unfamiliar to the other countries. Being together with every fearless guard in the whole world is not known to happen. Unless something would be largely feared to unite the countries together. No such thing has occurred. Until now.

In the land of Gran Pulse, a sudden chill ran through the ground. Trees shook. Plants shivered. The beauty of the nature ran away. The crystal utopia of Cocoon in the sky darkened. A black crystal cloud ran across the land and the plants died away. They began to rot straight away and fly with the cloud. The more plants it killed, the bigger the cloud got.

The cloud had become the size of a half a canyon. Deep inside, the cloud carried five dead bodies. The cloud stopped and changed into the shape of a person. A shadow. The bodies fell to the ground. One by one, they woke.

The shadow spoke in a deep voice. “I have raised you for one reason and one reason only. Each of you has an enemy in common with me. They need to be dead for me to succeed. I have given you the power to kill your enemy and not to fail. If you do fail, the responsibility will be given to the next. Are you with me?”

Four of them agreed.

One didn’t. “No. I will not go against my enemy again. He has become powerful. And he is truthful. I was in the wrong. As a ghost I learnt that and more about him.”

“Very well, rebel. What you just said shows cowardice. I don’t like that. You will be killed by these minions of mine as you will be stripped of your powers. Nothing will bring them back. Only I can.”

The rebel gasped and tried to use his power. Nothing happened. The minions caved in on him. He took out his sword. He struck one in the face. Nothing happened. He decided to run. The problem was he didn’t know where he was. He just carried on running.

“Stop, minions,” the shadow ordered. “You will be able to kill him later. His enemy will lead you to him.”

The rebel just ran. He looked behind him and saw a circle in the sky. It looked too big to be the moon. All he thought about was getting back.

Head south, he thought. Just keep going south. You’ll see him again. Next time you’ll be with help. He will die, not you. Just find your old enemy. No, your friend. Tell your friend everything.

He carried on running and looked back again. The minions weren’t following him. He stopped and looked at the moon. He became confused. It wasn’t the moon and it was dark. It was the sun. That shadow…it must’ve caused the darkness to come in daylight. Just then, the darkness had evaded and daylight had returned.

He looked around. Around him was nature and trees. In the distance were a few houses. He ran towards them. Those houses were not just a few. There were hundreds of them. All in lines. It looked like a village. He walked into the village and saw people everywhere. Cooking, carrying things, selling and buying things, everything.

A little girl came up to him and tugged on his coat. “Mister, can you help me?”

He smiled and got on one knee. “Sure. What do you need?”
