Chapter 30 - Survival of the Smartest

Zelda and Link entered the throne room of the Twilight Palace that originally belonged to Midna. It looked nothing like Hyrule Castle’s throne room.

“So, you’ve finally come to me,” spoke a deep voice at the end of the room. It was Zant. It was strange how his voice became deep with the use of a mask. “Glad you could join me. I was becoming a little…tired and bored.”

“Well, Zant. You will sleep today. Forever!” yelled Zelda. Midna came out of Link’s shadow and nodded.

Zant laughed. “Midna, Midna, Midna. Do you really think my God will disappear just like the last time?”

“Absolutely!” she replied, angrily.

He continued to laugh, whole-heartedly.

“Hey, Zant,” called Link. “Do you remember me with this sword?”

“What do you think? I don’t remember? No I don’t. What’s your name?” he asked sarcastically.

“Prepare to die!” Link ran at him.

Zant hovered in the air and changed their location. They were in the forest temple. Zelda turned into Sheik. Sheik took one of his throwing knives and aimed at Zant. A few hit him and Link’s boomerang brought him down to them. Link took the Master Sword out and attacked him. After a few hits from the sword, Zant got back up and hovered in the air. He threw darkness balls and aimed at Sheik. He quickly flashed away by throwing something on the ground in front of him. He appeared a few feet away from his original position where the magic had hit the shadows.

Sheik laughed and threw his knives at Zant. They hit him and Zant held his stomach and groaned. He stopped and changed the location. They were now on a mountain surrounded by lava on top of a hovering platform.

“Hey Zant!” shouted Link. “I’ve never been here. Do you mind changing the location again?”

“Um…sure. This must be one of my fantasy locations.”

As Zant hovered in the air again to change the location, Sheik threw Link a surprised look. Link just smirked. They were now underwater. Sheik couldn’t breathe and swam straight to the top. Link swam to the bottom. Zant’s helmets rose from under the bed and the tongue part of all three huge helmets opened. He needed to look for Zant. He took the clawshots out. He looked around. He finally noticed Zant in the second one. Link aimed at Zant and released the claws. The claws pulled Zant to him and he struck the stealer five times. Sheik came diving down and Zant changed the scene again. Finally they were outside Hyrule Castle.

Zant tried to run but there was nowhere else to go. Zant moaned and took two scythes out. He shrieked.

“Nowhere to go now, Zant!” Link shouted at him. “Come on then! Bring it on! Fight like a real man and stop using illusions!!” Link ran to him and charged at him.

Zant ran to Sheik and grabbed him from the back. He aimed his scythe at Sheik’s heart.

“One more step and the beloved princess of Hyrule will die.”

Sheik growled. “It’s not easy trying to kidnap me, you idiot!”

“Who are you calling an idiot, you…you…idiot?!”

“You, brainless.”

“Do you really want me to stab you?” Zant yelled.

“With what?”

“With my weapons-” Zant was cut off by Link who had taken Zant’s weapons and had been throwing them in the air and catching them.

Link laughed as Sheik stabbed Zant with one of his knives on his leg. Zant cried in pain and Sheik kicked him against a wall. Sheik ran next to Link and they both formed their fighting position. Zant looked up at them and screamed like a little girl after his helmet came off.

This made Link and Sheik laugh even more. “Stop it, Zant! You’re too funny!” laughed Sheik.

Zant stared at them, with anger. He knew they were taunting him yet he fell for it.

Zant summoned his scythes to him. Link and Sheik were still laughing their heads off.

Link looked at Zant while laughing. “You know, Zant. No one has EVER made me laugh during a battle before! You’re the first! You should get a prize!”

Zant’s expression softened. “Really?” he squealed.

Sheik turned his back on Zant as he carried on laughing. Link started to calm down but he still had a huge grin on his face. He nudged Sheik before replying to Zant.

“Yeah! Absolutely! Here. I’ll give it to you.” Link lifted his left hand. “Your prize is the Triforce of Courage!”

This stopped Sheik from laughing. “WHAT?!” he yelled.

Zant smiled with a surprised look on his face. “Seriously? You’re not joking, right?”

“Of course not!”

“Give it to me!” he squealed louder. “But just before you do, I didn’t really want to kill you. Just Midna maybe. But I don’t really feel the need to kill you. My God really wants you dead. Not me.”

“Alrighty then!”

Link aimed his left hand at Zant. Zant was smiling with joy. Link’s Triforce glowed golden light. The golden light shot out at Zant and it hit him. Before Zant could react, Link slashed him with the Master Sword at least nine times. The last strike sent Zant straight into the wall he fell into before. He fell to the ground and kept his head down. The location turned back to the throne room in the Twilight Palace.

“Agh….” groaned Zant.

Link laughed. “Did you really think I was going to give you, the servant of the one who wants to take over the entire world and wants to kill me and Zelda, the Triforce of Courage?”

Zant glared at him. “No! I didn’t! I knew you weren’t…going to give it…to me!”

Sheik took out a knife and playfully threw it in the air and caught it. “You liar! You didn’t know! You were too happy squealing!”

Link nodded at Sheik and turned to Zant. “This is what you call survival of the SMARTEST!”

“Who are you…calling dumb, you…worthless…”

“Do yourself a favour, Zant, and don’t finish that sentence,” replied Midna.

“This….isn’t fair! I deserve….to be king! I worked so hard…for this! And you get it…served to you….on a plate!” He pointed at Midna. “Don’t believe…this to be the…end. You…will stay an imp…forever! There is no…reverse spell!”

Midna was seriously angry now. “Shut the hell up, ZANT!!” she screamed as she used her dark magic. The magic hit Zant and his body blew up into little pieces.

Link and Sheik looked at Midna then at the little pieces of Zant floating around. They looked at each other and laughed again at Zant’s stupidity. Midna too laughed as they left the palace to be on their way to Hyrule Castle.
