Chapter 13 - A Surprise

Vergil was surprised. He never expected a beautiful white temple would have such a monstrous dungeon. All they needed to do was find a statue that was missing to get into the boss chamber. The statue had a huge axe or hammer in its hands and it had a hole in its body. It was pitch black.

“This is…annoying,” Dante spoke under the darkness. “Nero, direct us with your arm.”

“You know I could just try and find the torches myself.”

“Okay, go on then.”

They heard shuffling. All of them took their swords out. Lightning just shot everywhere. Two of the bullets hit something. Whatever it was, hit itself on the wall.

Nero whispered. “Who shot me?”

“Sorry!”

“Found it. I’ll light it in a moment.”

Nero began to charge his sword. The others could hear like a motorbike charging. They saw something red at the top. All of a sudden, the red light went away and the room lit up with bright light.

“There we go. Hey, I’ve found a door.”

He came back towards the others and helped them up to the higher ground.

“Here.”

They walked through the door and looked around. Dante pointed straight ahead.

“Hey. There’s the statue we need.”

He ran towards it. He didn’t notice the pile of black armour on the floor, forming a body. “How will we get it out of here?”

Nero saw it and became alarmed. “Dante! Move out of the way! Turn around!”

It was too late. Dante was stabbed but he was alive, on the black armour’s large black sword. It threw Dante off by flinging him towards Vergil who was on the other side of the room, looking at a huge golden bell. Both Vergil and Dante were lying on the floor.

Lightning and Nero charged at the armour. Nero took the Master Sword out. He jumped and hit the armour on its head. It couldn’t handle two people attacking it at once. Lightning blocked its attacks on one side and Nero was stabbing, slashing at it from every direction. With every attack they made, the pieces of armour came off, bursting into ashes, revealing a man with a covered face. It threw it sword in their direction and the two of them ducked.

It took out another sword. This one was really thin. Thinner than Yamato.

“Lightning, run!”

She ran towards the dazzled twins and the faceless man followed her.

“Not so fast.”

Nero used his devil bringer to lift it in the air, throw it down and stab it with the Master Sword. It looked dead. Nero took the Master Sword out. All of a sudden, it burst into dark ashes and disappeared. Nero ran to the twins and helped them up.

“Thanks,” Dante mumbled. “I still could have handled it.”

“Of course, you could,” said Nero. “But I had the Master Sword. And I thought I might as well do it. Anyways, you should open that chest that appeared when we killed it.”

Nero pointed to a blue chest near the statue. Dante walked towards it and opened it. He lifted up some sort of rod. There was a tag attached to it.

He read it. “Behold the Dominion rod. This mystical rod has the ability of bringing the inanimate to life! It is controlled by the holder of the rod!’ Cool!”
