I take a deep breath. Here I was, at Princess Riley's coronation, supposedly as her girlfriend. My mom, Maleficent, had sent me, Sarah (Evil Queen's daughter), Lucas (Jafar's son), and Farkle (Cruella de Vil's son) to steal fairy godmother's magic wand.

This was our last chance to nab the dang thing, fairy godmother was using it at the coronation. I look in the stands to see Sarah, Lucas, and Farkle patiently waiting for my signal. I smile as I watch Riley step forward.

What was I doing? Was I really gonna do this? Yes, yes I was. I'm Maya, Maleficent's daughter, I'm rotten to the core! I debate to myself. There is no good in me, Riley was wrong when she said she saw the good in me. This was my one chance to prove to my mom that I'm evil. But is being evil really what I want? I thought it was, but Riley seemed to change my whole view. The girl practically radiated goodness, it was hard to not like her. Falling in love with her? That's a whole different idea.

I sigh as I think back to moments before we entered the hall. I had given Riley an anti-love brownie. When Maleficent takes over, having her still be in love with me just seems cruel. But Riley had admitted that she knew all along that I had put a love spell on her, but not for the reason she thought it was. She even admitted that she hadn't been faking anything, sending my emotions into an inner turmoil. Did I really love her back?

Fairy godmother steps to her magic wand, removing the glass case around it. I watch intently as fairy godmother places a crown on Riley's head. I look back at my friends in the stands, who seemed to be debating this as much as I was. I could tell, it was in their eyes.

Fairy godmother grabs her wand. I could just imagine my mom back in the Isle of the Lost, waiting intently for me to steal it.

"Do you solemnly swear to govern the peoples of Auradon, with justice and mercy, for as long as you shall reign?" Fairy godmother's voice rings out in the silent hall.

"I do solemnly swear." Riley says confidently.

"Then it is my honor, and my joy to bless our new queen." Fairy godmother starts, but is interrupted when someone grabs her wand. But, it wasn't me. It was Jane, her daughter. Everyone gasps.

Jane waves it around, unknowingly breaking the barrier. Sparks shoot from the wand, as she continues to wave it in the air. Riley runs over to me and puts herself between me and Jane. What was she doing? Trying to protect me?

I gently push Riley out of the way and wrestle with Jane for the wand. "Careful Maya!" I hear Topanga, Riley's mom shout.

I grab the wand out of Jane's hand. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Sarah, Lucas, and Farkle make their way down here.

"Maya, give me the wand." Riley says, uncertain of what I was doing.

"Stand back!" I yell. I didn't want to hurt her. Wait, what was I doing!? Showing mercy!? For the daughter of the people who put my mother on that stupid island in the first place?

I hear the doors open and Sarah, Lucas, and Farkle run over to me.

"Maya, it's okay." Riley tries again. "Riley, I said to stand back!" I yell even louder.

"See! I told you she was no good!" Missy yells. I glare and point the wand at her, she quickly backs away like the coward she is.

"Let's go." Farkle says. "Revenge time." Lucas adds.

"You really want to do this?" Riley says, hurt and betrayal in her eyes, giving me a pang in my chest. No, I couldn't be falling in love, I just couldn't!

"Riley, we don't have a choice, our parents-" I start but am cut off.

"Your parents made their choice!" Riley says. "Now you make yours."

I look into Riley's eyes, seeing the hope in there that I'll make the right choice. I look back at Sarah, Lucas, and Farkle who seemed to be waiting for me to answer. This was it, was I gonna follow my mom's path or make my own?

Ever since I got to Auradon, all Riley has done is try to make me feel welcome here. She was the cause of all this, she was so good that she was willing to give villains a chance, something that no one else would ever think to do. She was the only one who stood by our side when all seemed lost, when every other person in Auradon wanted to get rid of us. She's shown me all these amazing things- strawberries, goodness, and the most important thing of all: love.

I glance back at Riley. "I think I want to be good."
