I walk past compartment after compartment, looking for a place to sit. Each compartment was filled with older kid's rambunctious laughter, making me more and more nervous. I finally find one compartment that was relatively empty, with a small boy and girl sitting together. I take a deep breath and walk in, not knowing that I was about to meet my soulmate, someone I would love for years.

The two kids look up at me, waiting for me to say something. "Hi." I finally manage to say, studying each of them. The boy had a bowl cut and was wearing a turtleneck while the girl seemed to be all rainbow and sunshine.

"Hi!" The girl chirps to me, all bubbly. "I'm Riley and this is Farkle." She says, gesturing to the boy.

"I'm Maya." I introduce myself, sitting down across from them.

"Hi Maya." Riley says my name, sending shivers down my back. Now that I was sitting directly across from her, able to take in every feature of her, I was able to deduce that she was pretty. Really pretty.

It was silent for a couple minutes, the three of us not sure what to say to each other. Farkle seemed to be studying me, scrutinizing my every move while Riley was just smiling brightly, sending waves of happiness throughout the whole compartment. Finally, Farkle speaks.

"What house do you think you're in?" Farkle asks, launching the three of us into an extensive conversation.

"Hufflepuff!" Riley exclaims immediately. In the two minutes that I have known her, I have no doubt that Hufflepuff is the house for her.

"I don't know." I begin, not really giving much thought about it before.

"Well, we'll find out in a couple hours, won't we?" Farkle says, sending me a smile. "For me, Ravenclaw for sure. Although Slytherin could work as well, giving I have plans to take over the world."

I raise an eyebrow. "What?"

Riley gives a little laugh, making my heart pound in my chest. Looking back, I should've realized that I had fell in love with her the moment I saw her.

"Ignore Farkle." Riley says. "He always says that." She brushes the boy's quirks off.

There was a knock on the window and another boy comes in. "Hi, everywhere else is full, can I sit here?" The boy asks shyly. Riley seemed to blush at the sight of the boy, sending my stomach into a turmoil. What was so special about this boy?

"Sure!" Riley exclaims, too excited for my liking. The boy smiles and sits down next to me. "I'm Lucas." He introduces himself.

"I love it!" Riley shouts again, quickly flushing when realizing what she said. Lucas smiles bashfully at Riley and the two seem to have a little staring contest. I glare at Lucas, not sure what was overcoming me. Farkle glances at the two of them before looking at me. He quirks an eyebrow when noticing my expression. After that, I quickly try to mask my anger with a look of indifference.

Linebreak

As predicted, Riley was sorted into Hufflepuff. Farkle was put in Ravenclaw, Lucas was in Gryffindor, and I was in Slytherin. I frown when realizing we were in different houses. I could care less about where Lucas went, but I felt like Riley, Farkle, and I could have been good friends. Especially Riley. Something about that girl just had me mesmerized.

I glance at Riley, who was sitting at the Hufflepuff table, talking to some girls. She seemed to already be making friends, probably forgetting all about me.

"You're staring." A boy says to me, looking in the direction of Riley before back at me. I scowl at him. "It's none of your business where I look."
