Loud Silence

I was slammed into a locker, wincing at the pain. That's gonna leave a mark, although it's not like it would make much of a difference. It's just gonna be another one for the black and blue family.

"Well if it isn't the mute." Lucas sneers. He slaps me, sending a whirl of sharp pain through my cheek.

"What's wrong?" Riley mocks, smirking. "Why don't you stick up for yourself? Oh wait, that's right, you can't." She starts laughing, Lucas joining in.

I felt tears stinging my eyes and I desperately try to tone them down. This was my pathetic life. As a mute loser, bullied by Lucas and Riley, also known as my crush. Why did I still like her, even if she bullies me? I don't really know. All I know is that she has the warmest chocolate brown eyes, even if they turn cold when she's looking at me. She has the brightest smile, but it's never directed towards me. I get snarls and sneers from her, but she still looks beautiful.

This was how pathetic I am. My crush is also my main bully. I have no friends, Riley and Lucas made sure of that. And yet I can't bring myself to hate Riley, even if she makes my life a living hell. Lucas can go die in a hole for all I care.

I felt another stinging smack on my cheek. "You look at us when we're talking to you!" Riley snarls, going face to face with me. We're inches apart at this point and I flush, staring at those brown eyes that were filled with hatred. She looks down at my lips for a second, a confused expression on her face. But, then her glare is back and she elbows me in the stomach.

I fall down in pain, clutching my stomach. Riley and Lucas kick me a couple more times before leaving me to my wallows. If I had looked back up, I would've seen Riley look at my crumpled form with another confused expression.

I lay there on the ground for a while, trying to make the pain go away. I felt a figure approach me and I flinch away, knowing it was gonna be someone else that picks on me.

"Are you okay?" A worried voice asks. I scrunch my eyebrows in confusion. Who would be worried for me, everyone in the school found my pain funny.

I look up to find a guy with a bowl cut, wearing a space t-shirt and jean jacket. But the thing that stood out most to me was his eyes, they were brown and warm; they reminded me of Riley's. I've never seen him at school before, he was probably new.

I don't reply, after all I am mute.

"I'm gonna take you to the nurse's office, you don't look okay." He says, picking me up bridal style. "Er, where exactly is the nurse's office?" He asks. "I'm new, I have no idea where I'm going." He says, confirming my thoughts.

I point in the direction of the office. He nods and starts walking. Along the way, we pass Riley and Lucas at their locker. They look up at us with shock on their faces. Lucas's soon turns to a sneer while Riley scowls.

"Hey!" Lucas shouts, yelling at the kid. "Who do you think you are!?"

"Farkle." The guy replies. What? Was that a curse word or something that I don't know about?

"What did you just call me?" Lucas asks, raising an eyebrow.

The guy sighs. "No, my name is Farkle." What kind of name was that?

"Who would do that to you?" Lucas says, making a disgusted look on his face. "What kind of name is Farkle!?"

Farkle ignores him and begins to walk away.

"Hey, Frackel!" Riley yells. "What do you think you're doing with her!?" She shouts, almost sounding... jealous?

"Uh, taking her to the nurse's office. What else does it look like?" Farkle says in a mocking, obvious tone. "And my name is Farkle, not Frackel! What kind of name is Frackel!?" He exclaims.
