"Cheer up Maya. This camping trip is going to be amazing!" I chirp bubbly. My mom and dad had decided to take my friends and I camping. We were gonna have so much fun making s'mores, sitting around the campfire, and becoming one with nature. The four of us were currently sitting in the back of the van, on our way to the campsite.
Maya groans. "Why did you have to force me to come!?"
"Looks like city girl can't handle the big bad outdoors." Lucas smirks. Maya glares at him, immediately making him regret his words.
"I'm sure this will be fun." Farkle says.
"If it's anything like the last campfire I was at, then it won't." Maya snorts. Lucas shifts uncomfortably in his seat at the mention of Texas. I sigh at the love triangle that was still happening. Instead of Lucas being in the middle, it should be Maya. That's right, I like Maya. I was trying to make her jealous by being with Lucas, but it only made things worse when she ended up falling for him. Now we're all stuck in this one big, gigantic, tangled mess of feelings.
Farkle gives me a knowing look. He was the only one who knew my true feelings. My phone beeps. I had gotten a text from him.
Farkle: If you don't tell her, I will.
Me: Cause that totally ended well when you did that on New Year's with Lucas and I!
I roll my eyes. Farkle promised he wouldn't do this again but here we are once again.
"Who ya texting, Riles?" Maya asks. My mouth curves into a smile when she says my name.
"No one important." I answer. It was Farkle's turn to roll his eyes. Maya raises an eyebrow, not believing me for a second.
"Seriously Maya, it's no one." I say then look back at my phone.
Farkle: You can't just keep hiding this. We're all a mess right now.
Me: It's going to be an even bigger mess if you tell her!
"Alright guys, we're here!" My dad says, hoping out of the car. "Our campsite is about half a mile from here. It's time for a hike!"
Maya groans at the news. "Oh, too bad for you!" My dad exclaims, handing everyone their bags.
Linebreak
Slap! I give a little noise of disgust. That was the third mosquito I had killed in the past five minutes. "Why did we have to forget the bug spray!?" I complain, slapping my arm again.
"Still finding this fun?" Maya says, running a hand through her hair. My breath hitched, watching her movement. Every time she does that it makes me even more attracted to her. Farkle gives me a little shove forward. In the time that I was admiring Maya, I didn't realize that I had stopped walking.
"Tell her already." Farkle whispers in my ear. Maya flashes a glance back to me, something in her eyes. Was it jealousy?
I lean a little closer to Farkle. "No, Farkle." I whisper through my teeth, aware of Maya watching me. Lucas, my mom, and my dad were already ahead of us.
"Riley, you need to stop hiding this from her." Farkle whispers once again. Maya flashes me a sad look before turning to catch up with the others.
"Would you just stop it Farkle!?" I exclaim, now that Maya was ahead. "I'm trying to enjoy this trip and I can't do that with you breathing on my neck every five seconds!"
"I'll stop if you just tell her!" Farkle shoots back. "Guys, there you are!" Lucas says. "Come on slowpokes, we thought we lost you for a second." He turns back around.
