Happy Thanksgiving everyone! My gift to you guys is an update on some of my stories. Eat lots of food!
"Riley, look what Missy did to our homecoming dresses!" I exclaim, barging in the room. I stop, noticing the tear tracks on her face. "What's wrong?" I ask, tossing the dresses aside. I'm immediately by her side in a second flat, wrapping an arm around her.
It's kind of funny how this whole thing started. My dad works for the government to help foreign princesses. After a trip to Costa Luna, he ended up having to bring Riley here to New York for her own safety. Apparently her mom is being held prisoner and it's all thanks to this guy named General Kane.
When he first brought Riley back, we tended to butt heads quite a bit. I had always thought that princesses were just stuck-up snobby people. But then again, it was Missy who made me think like that. Riley was the complete opposite of stuck-up, she was possibly the kindest and friendliest girl on the planet. That may have been why I ended up falling for her.
"I have to leave, Maya." Riley says sadly, staring at the ground.
"Leave, leave where?" I ask.
"Back to my country." She answers, putting her head on my shoulder. Riley hands me a magazine. "General Kane is forcing my mother into marriage." She explains since the article was in Spanish.
"My dad is never gonna let you go back." I say.
"He'll never know." Riley says.
"Yeah, but I know. And I'm not gonna let you go back either!" I exclaim.
"Maya, you have to stay out of this. I have a duty to my people and this is something that you'll never understand. I've loved living here in New York and I wish my life could be like this every day. But this is not reality." Riley says, lifting her head to look me in the eye.
"I mean, you think that my life as a princess is some fairy tale? This here is a fairy tale! And I cannot hide here anymore." Riley continues. "Soon I will be queen of Costa Luna. My country needs me."
'I need you.' I thought, biting my lip. I hold my thought back, instead saying "You're right, they do need you. They need you to lead them and to protect them. And that's something you can't do from jail which is exactly where you'll end up if you go back to Costa Luna."
Riley doesn't respond back to me. Instead, she moves away from me, walking out of the room.
"No way am I letting this happen." I say to myself. I grab my phone, calling the one person Riley said to do so in an emergency. And this was a big emergency, a huge one.
"Hello, this is Shawn, who is this?" I hear a voice say on the phone.
"That's not important right now. All that matters is that I'm a friend of Princess Riley and she's about to make a very big mistake." I say over the phone.
"My Princessa? What mistake is this?"
"She wants to come home." I answer, slightly cringing at the heaviness of my voice.
"No, no, no, she must not. It's too dangerous." Shawn says.
"I know, but I have a plan. I'm gonna need you to listen very carefully." I say slowly, the plan already developing in my mind.
"I will do anything. Anything." Shawn puts emphasis on the word.
"Okay, to start with, I'm gonna need two dresses." I say, a smile forming on my face. After going over the plan a couple times with Shawn, I hung up. I walked out of the room to find Riley in the living room, staring out the window.
