I smile, slowly walking to Lucas. Everyone was clapping and cheering, we had just won prom King and Queen. Lucas stood there, waiting for me, a wide smile on his face. I think back to how this all started, all because of Missy.

"What brings you here?" Missy sneers at Farkle and I.

"Maya invited us." I say, glancing back at Maya on the stage. She notices me looking at her and smiles, waving at me. I flush and wave back, turning back to Missy.

"Riley, you and Maya aren't even on the same social radar. See, here is the social radar." She gestures around. "And over there is Siberia." She points to the sky. "And over there is you." She stretches her arm, exaggerating her pointing.

Everyone around us laughs. "Why do people even like you?" Farkle says, glaring at Missy.

"Well I'm not the one trying to steal someone's prom date." Missy says, mocking sadness, pretending to play the victim. Right, Missy has a thing with Maya. "Riley thinks Maya is asking her." Missy sneers. "Maya and I have been dating for like, 17 whole days. And everyone knows it except for the school geniuses."

The crowd bursts into laughter. "I never- I never said that!" I exclaim.

"I know what you said. And I know a crush when I see one. So back off." Missy says.

Maya notices the crowd between us and shoves through. "Hey, what's going on?" She asks.

"Oh, nothing. Hey Maya, um, you're asking me to prom, right?" Missy asks, doing puppy dog eyes.

Maya frowns, looking at me for a second. She glances at the crowd before looking back at Missy. "Yeah..." She says hesitantly. The crowd laughs again and I look down. Farkle gives me a sympathetic look.

"Oh, I knew it! But there have been some nasty rumors in the kingdom." Missy says. The crowd continues to laugh at her every word.

Maya steps up to me. "Um, Riley, what I wanted to ask you was... can we go over quadratic functions tomorrow?" She asks slowly.

I nod slowly, trying to hold back the tears when I hear the crowd laughing again. Farkle squeezes my hand in reassurance, giving me a small smile.

"You know me, I'm clueless." Maya says, noticing my expression.

"Yes, we can see that." Farkle comments, rolling his eyes.

"Sorry to burst your bubble. Sad face emoji." Missy mocks. "See ya!" She says, turning around and beginning to walk away.

Maya glances at me, looking like she wanted to say something else. She opens her mouth, hesitates, then stops and walks away, not giving me a second glance, making my already broken heart split in two.

"Let's go Riley." Farkle says softly. "This was a bad idea." He pats me on my arm, trying to cheer me up.

I don't know what overcame me, but I couldn't just let Missy get away with this. She's been humiliating Farkle and I ever since we were in middle school. All because we were smarter than her. Why is it that being smart is suddenly such a bad thing!?

"Hey Missy, my bubble is unburst because I already have a boyfriend!" I cry out desperately, trying to stop my humiliation. Farkle looks at me with wide eyes. "What are you doing?" He asks.

"See, my boyfriend, so cute, total hot burger, and his name is..." I trail off, looking to Farkle for help.

"Lucas." Farkle whispers to me, hushing his voice.
