"Ready for the first day of high school?" My best friend Farkle asks me. "Yup." I reply, popping the p.
"Just look at this place, it's so big." My other best friend Lucas says. "We'll see you at lunch, Riles." Farkle says, as the first bell rings. I sigh at the fact that we had to be parted so early. I didn't have any classes with either of them for the first half of the day.
"Yeah, see you at lunch." I respond and smile at my two friends. They smile back and began to walk to their first period, occasionally glancing back at me.
I turn and face the building once again. "Okay, I can do this."
Linebreak
"Riley, stop looking at her." Lucas whispers in my ear. We were in our last period of the day, finally. The day had been a disaster. I had lost my map and ended up late ten minutes to every single one of my classes. The only time I actually felt okay was lunch, when I was sitting with Lucas and Farkle.
I tore my gaze away from the blonde girl I was looking at. Something about her just had me mesmerized.
"Okay class, we still have five minutes left. Do whatever you want with it." The teacher says, sitting at her desk. The class cheers and noise erupts the classroom, everyone talking to each other.
I look back at the blonde girl who was intently drawing in her notebook, giving no indication of whether or not she heard all the noise.
"You like her." Lucas smirks. "No I don't!" I deny it.
"You totally do. You were staring at her for like five minutes." Lucas smirks again when he sees me flush. "See, you're even blushing!"
"Lucas, that's crazy. I don't even know her name." I say, still trying to deny it.
"Whatever you say." Lucas rolls his eyes.
The bell rings allowing us to finally go home. "Stay here Riley, I'm gonna go find Farkle." Lucas says. I nod to let him know I heard him. I stand and watch as all the other freshman walk past me.
This one guy walks right in front of me. "Sup, I'm Charlie." He says with lust in his eyes, roaming my body. I shift uncomfortably, not sure what to do. I desperately look around, hoping I could find Lucas or Farkle.
"Who ya looking for? Your boyfriend?" He asks, still not taking his eyes off of me.
"No, I-I'm gay." I say, desperate to get this creep away from me. Charlie smirks. "Sure you are, that's just what all the girls say to get rid of me."
Before he could make his next move, I feel someone's arm wrap around me. Relief floods through me and I turn, expecting Lucas or Farkle to finally show up. Instead, I find the blonde girl from earlier.
"Hey babe, is this guy bothering you?" She asks, glaring at Charlie. I'm too shocked to answer.
Charlie scoffs. "Please, this can't actually be your girlfriend. I know, this is probably just your friend that pretends to be dating you to get rid of all the creeps." He says, seeing right through us. Except he got one thing wrong, this girl wasn't my friend. At least, not yet.
"Shove off dude." The blonde beauty sneers, pulling me closer to her. The movement sends my heartbeat into a frenzy. Charlie doesn't give up. "Oh yeah? If you guys are really dating, then kiss." He smirks, knowing he got us there.
"Okay fine, we-" I begin confessing. I'm cut off by a pair of lips. Charlie's eyes pop out of his head, not expecting us to actually kiss.
"Okay, okay. Fine, I guess you really are dating." And with that, Charlie walks away.
The kiss lingers for longer than it should. When we finally pull away, I see Farkle and Lucas with their mouths hanging open. The girl smiles at me. "Name's Maya. Call me." She says, making her exit.
I glance back at my hand where she had somehow managed to slip a piece of paper with her number on it without me noticing.
"Close your mouths and let's go home." I drag Farkle and Lucas, who were still in shock at what just happened.
