Calum's POV
I was looking at the person at the end of the room her friends call June Lopez; the blue-haired girl.
Please don't let that be her.
"June Lopez?" I asked hoping she wouldn't answer but my dreams were shattered the minute she turned around. "You're June Lopez?" I stared at her intently hoping she wouldn't budge.
By now, everybody's looking at us but unlike what everyone else thinks, I don't like the attention, although they brought it upon themselves.
I can see through her eyes and gestures that she was hesitant and uneasy as everyone has been looking at her for a few minutes now.
She slowly nodded and blushed. I would say she was cute but then I remember the letter she gave me. I slowly walked towards her and stood just in front of her.
I didn't want to do this here, but we're already in this situation, I couldn't turn back. I gave her the letter she gave me with the same envelope. Her head was down so I couldn't see her reaction but I know she's blushing. I couldn't help but feel guilty to what was bound to happen.
Silence filled the cafeteria the moment she opened the envelope and read a familiar letter. I was staring at her intently seeing at her reaction when the letter got snatched from her hands by a cheerleader I don't even know the name.
"Ohh. What's this? A love letter to Calum?" she laughed together with her posse of posers. "Oh my God, is this a love letter or an English paper? He even graded it a D for Christ's sake, she's already a senior yet she doesn't know correct grammar." Everybody in the cafeteria laughed.
I felt guilty, big time. But nobody has to know that. I didn't even realize she was already crying. God, what have I done?
My thoughts were interrupted by her red head friend grabbing the letter from the snotty cheerleaders. He turned around and faced me anger evident in his eyes. "What the fuck dude? What do you think you're doing, humiliating my friend like that?"
I quickly thought of a comeback, "Well, if she's your friend, you should've stopped her from writing the letter in the first place." Which is true.
I continued my little speech, "I would've appreciated the effort but what I hate most are stupid people. She can't even tell the difference between 'Your' and 'You're' with an apostrophe re." I looked at as if taunting her. It is true though, one of my pet peeves is wrong grammar and vocabulary.
I didn't want to hurt her even more with my words so I decided to finish my speech there so I turned around started walking away until I heard my name being called again.
The red head came closer to me and glared at me, "Apologize to her." What? "What? You want me to apologize for correcting her mistakes?" I retorted. "Don't think too high on yourself, Hood. Just because you're the top student in this school doesn't mean you can look down and step on every person that comes on your way." He shot back obviously fuming.
"If so, I actually helped her, maybe next time she would actually write a nicer and grammatical error-free letter." I act as if I wasn't bothered by the commotion happening in the cafeteria.
"Are the mistakes the only things you see in this letter? Thoughts and feelings are put into it, yet you chose to be ignorant and arrogant." His friend waved the letter in front of my face but then June stepped in our 'fight.' "Michael stop-"
The both of us looked at her and shit, her face, I couldn't bare look at it. I did that. "-please." She was sobbing like crazy then red head, Michael rather, piped in, "No, June, I'm gonna teach this guy ho-"
His sentence was interrupted by Mrs. Watson, "What is going on in here? Clifford! Are you making trouble again?" She asked but before Michael could respond, I talked first, "Nothing's going on, Missus, you're just gonna waste your time on such narrow minded people."
I quickly left the cafeteria not wanting anything to go further. I'm such a jerk.

"Dude, what you did back there was legen-wait for it-dary!" Will, one of my teammates, started laughing, reminiscing the events that happened earlier at lunch. "That girl got burnt! Like seriously, man, I never thought you're this kind of person."
"Can we not talk about that anymore?" I replied to him getting annoyed at their continuous teasing. Eric piped in the conversation, "Seriously man, she's actually pretty cute," But pretty dumb. "You could just date her, I mean, we haven't seen you with a girl ever since freshman year. I could hook you up if you like?"
"Not interested." I simply replied.
I'm not really interested in dating, I don't know, maybe after six years, I'm still too hung up on my first love. I haven't been with her since that night outside her house. I remember it crystal clear.
After that incident, she just vanished, even my parents were shocked she just disappeared like that, we were tight as a glue.
I got out of my trance when I heard someone calling me, apparently, Will has been snapping his fingers in front of me for a good two minutes.
"Aren't we going to continue practice?"
"Oh-uh yeah, 5 laps, go." I snapped out of my thoughts and got back to practice.
