Calum's POV
I was at home, chilling. Dad gave me the day off of work so I had nothing to do. I'm bored out of my mind that even Fifa couldn't cheer me up.
I was about to text Luke to hang out but then I received a message from him.
SOS DUDE. MY HOUSE. BASEMENT. NOW. – Lukey
What's the emergency?
I quickly reached out for my jacket and ran out of my room.
The drive to Luke's was fast so I hurriedly got out of the car and got inside of the house not even bothering to knock.
I walked fast down the basement and I heard voices.
"Dude, thank God you're here. We really need you in the band." Luke greeted me and I responded, "I told you I'm not joining your stupid band, is this why you called me?"
So this is the emergency?
"Uh-" Luke started.
What the fuck?
I'm out of here.
I started walking back upstairs when Luke stopped me. "Wait, dude."
We were midstairs and he talked to me quietly.
"Dude, please, do it for me? We really need you here, we're a mess!"
"I told you-" He interrupted me.
"Yeah, yeah, you don't want to join our stupid band, but, man, isn't this what you wanted? I know you're busy and all helping your dad with work, I could help you, too. How about we trade huh? I help you with work and then you help me with the band." Luke explained and that made me think.
"Hey! You promised you'll help me, now it's a trade?!"
"Well, nothing's free now Cal, so what do you say?" He smirked at me and I thought, why the hell not? I've always loved music, and I could really use Luke's help.
"Fine, deal." I finally agreed.
He grinned at me and I groaned in defeat.
We walked back to the group and Luke spoke, "So guys, let's welcome the new member of the Powerpuff Blokes!"
Powerpuff Blokes?
What the hell?
"Luke, no one really agreed to Powerpuff Blokes." I heard Mikhaela speak, of course she's here, Michael's here.
Ashton ignored Luke's introduction and talked to me, "Woah really? That's awesome, man! We really need a hand here."
"Yeah, whatever, I don't even have my bass." Luke patted my shoulder and said, "Don't worry man, I'm all out here."
He walked to a little storage cabinet at the corner of the room and pulled out a bass guitar. Woah.
He gave it to me and I reached for it. Damn. I adjusted the straps and tuned it for a while. I turned to the band, "Okay, so what do you have so far?"
Luke strung a chord and looked at me, "That's it." What? "That's it? What the fuck was that?"
They've been practicing for a long time now, and that's what they got? Shit. They really need help.
Ashton laughed nervously and said, "Well, you see, we haven't really gotten around completing a song." This is ultimate fail. I pulled out my phone and browsed on my notes, chords.
I picked Teenage Dream because it's one of the easiest and also one of the most popular songs.
I turned to Luke, "Here, use these chords." He reached for my phone and he read it, "Teenage Dream? This was the one you sang with Mali, right?" I nodded and turned to Ashton.
"Ashton, you make two eight beats at the intro and then Michael, Michael." He wouldn't budge. What the hell?
"5 Seconds of Summer!" I was startled by his sudden outburst and that was when someone spoke, "Michael, it isn't summer yet." June.
Wait, she's here?
Why didn't I see her earlier?
My heart beat fast upon seeing her and I had to calm myself down so I turned back to Michael, waiting for an explanation.
"No. The name of the band. I've had this name since maths class; I just couldn't remember it until now." He explained and I must say it isn't bad.
"It actually has a nice ring to it." Luke said and everybody else nodded. "So, 5 Seconds of Summer it is!" Michael cheered and they all cheered, and I was stuck with calming myself down with how fast my heart was beating. Her smile did this.
I was snapped out of my thought when Michael nudged me, "So what were you saying, man?" I instructed Michael and chords and the right strumming in the song.
An hour through the practice, I've been really distracted, June is distracting me, so I had to literally push her out of the basement and made an excuse that she was annoying. She was annoying, yes, but annoyingly beautiful.
What the fuck, Cal?
What the hell happened to you?
The moment June was out of the basement, Luke threw me a knowing look and I just shrugged it off.
The next two hours, we almost perfected Teenage Dream and I couldn't wait to play it. We then went back up the stairs and to the living room.
"God, I'm so tired!" Michael flopped down the couch beside June, I was about to sit beside her but Luke beat me to it.
Fucking hell.
I just sat on the other couch with Ashton.
"That was one hell of a practice, you should've joined us the first time, we could've not wasted time." That was for me from Ashton, so I answered, "Well, as you can see, Lucas just forced me to join now."
"Hey! It was always your dream to start a band! What happened to that?" Luke said and my eyes widened. What the fuck?
"That was years ago, Luke, I have priorities now." It's true though, I do have other priorities now.
"Like what? Running your dad's company?" Michael asked, and that ticked me off. It wasn't his fault, I just don't want to talk about it right now.
"I'm going home." I stood up and went outside the house.
I got to my car and went inside. I was about to start it when I heard a knock on the other door. June. Shit I forgot we live in the same house.
I opened her side of the door and she got inside.
The car ride was silent; I didn't really know what to say to her. I guess she hated the awkward silence so she talked, "I uh heard you guys play, well just the instruments not the singing, but it was a great tune."
I smiled at that. I was debating with myself whether or not I'll play the cold Calum or just be myself in front of her, I picked the latter. "Did you like it?"
There was silence again.
Why the fuck isn't she responding?
I panicked that what I said was wrong, should I have just stick to the cold Calum?
I was about to speak again when she beat me to it, "Yeah, I actually loved it."
SHE LOVED IT. SHE FUCKING LOVED IT.
I guess I'll have to continue this band thing now, eh?
I smiled to myself and let the calming silence surround us.
I was happy like legit happy. Luke was right, it was always been my dream to start a band, and now it's coming true. I hope I made the right decision. I know I won't regret it.
The drive was silent, taking the long way home.
