Calum's POV
Friday came fast, June and I have been official for a few days now and everyone at school already knows about our relationship and since then, nobody dared messing with her.
I've also been busy because of band practices and soccer practices. Tomorrow is our final game and I couldn't be relieved that my responsibility as a captain is almost done.
Also, ever since the school knew about our band, the whole group never had privacy. The screaming girls became louder than ever. And on the gig on Sunday, we'll be playing a song I've written when I was 15, which is not very good, might I say.
"So, finals tomorrow baby! Are you nervous, huh captain?" Luke slightly yelled at our table making me chuckle a little. "Not really, I mean, we beat Newcrest every year, I already lost interest." I shrugged and ate my pizza.
It's true, though. Every year we face Newcrest at Finals and we always win.
"How's the life in a relationship huh Luke, is it nice?" Michael joked and Luke just glared at him. Michael's been making fun of him ever since June and I become official and I think Luke's getting annoyed.
He should really get a girlfriend. To be honest, Luke's good looking, so finding a girlfriend won't be hard for her. When he was in London, he had girlfriends then and there, a week never pass without having a girlfriend.
Unless, he already likes someone who's not available. I shrugged the thought that Luke might still be hung up on my girlfriend because if he did, I don't think it'll go too well between Luke and me.
"Shut up, I'm going to have a girlfriend, and you're all going to be jealous about it." He stuck his tongue out at everybody and dug in his lasagna.
"Hey, Cal, aren't you and Naomi Stevenson friends? I mean, she was at the gig." Michael asked and I tensed. Why would he bring her up?
"Yeah, what about her?" I simply said hoping nobody feels the nervousness in my voice. "Well, I received an invitation this morning, we aren't really close but she invited me to her party and so did Mikhaela." Michael explained and Luke spoke, "Party? What party?"
Luke eyed me as if asking if I know anything about it until Michael pulled the invitation out of his bag just for Luke to snatch it away from him.
Luke nudged me and we looked at the invitation. My eyes widened when I saw the date of the party. It's next Saturday. No, that can't be. The engagement party's next Saturday.
Fuck.
Did Mr. Stevenson do this on purpose? Invite my friends for a 'birthday party' but then it was really the engagement party? No, I won't let June go.
June snatched the invitation from our hands and read it herself. "Birthday party? It's her birthday?"
She asked me and I just shrugged. It's not her birthday, is it?
"I guess I saw that same envelope sticking out of your mailbox this morning, maybe you're invited, too. And I'm not?! Wow, this is unfair." Luke whined and I glared at him. Wow he's thinking about that? When I have a real problem here than only he knows.
He muttered a quick 'sorry' and I made a mental note to talk to him about it later. June will get suspicious if we excuse ourselves now.
"Did you get an invite, too? I mean you're friends." June nudged me and I answered, "I don't know, even if I did, can we just not go to it? We can all hang out in my apartment and shit."
Please agree. Please just fucking agree.
Michael snatched the invite from June, "When's that? Ooh, it's next Saturday two weeks before our big day, graduation. We should go, I mean, Naomi's nice enough to invite all of us." Naomi is nice, her father isn't.
Luke chuckled bitterly, "Huh trust me, she's very nice." He said dragging the word 'very' at that. Can't Luke be a little bit more captain obvious?! I gave him the shut-up-but-we-need-to-talk-later look.
Once I recovered, I turned to June, "No, we're not. Especially not you." I know I shouldn't be ordering her what to do. But what can I do? My girlfriend can't be at my engagement party with another girl, that's just you know.
She looked at me unamused and spoke, "I was invited, so I'll go even if you don't"
"No, you're not." I pressed.
"You don't own me. I can do what I want."
"She's punk rock." Michael tried to diffuse the tension building. I looked at him confused as to what he was saying but that's not the problem at hand right now.
"Is fighting with your boyfriend in front of your friends your hobby? Because I think you've been doing that a lot." Is she really planning this? I mean, it's only our second fight since I confessed to her and those two fights happened in front of our friends.
"You're still not going." I shot back, hoping she would just back off and not go.
"Why, is there something about Naomi that you don't want me to know? You seem so determined about not making me go to her party." I was taken aback by her accusation. Yes, I'm hiding something, I'm getting married to her, fuck. But I want you.
I know I won't be able to win at this. Lately, she's been confident enough to fight with me. I'm just afraid that once I fight back, our relationship would be ruined, and it'll be my fault.
"No, there isn't. You know what, fine we'll go." I didn't have a choice but to agree. I have to think of a plan. I'm still on that backing out of the marriage plan, and I have to go long ways to be able to do that.
"Cool, so are we like going there late or?" Michael slowly asked. "We're going to have to be there at six. It's a formal party, not a house party, the program starts at six so be there at six." I explained.
Michael's eyes widened and spoke, "F-formal? Like we'll wear suits and dresses and shit?" The Stevensons are pretty wealthy so yes, it is a formal occasion.
"It's not too late to back out. The offer about not going to party is still open." I bluntly said, hoping they would back out but June beat me to it, "Oh no, we're going."
I sighed, if that day comes, I'm screwed.
If I couldn't back out of it, maybe I could convince Naomi to. She's pretty nice, I hope I can talk her out of it without putting the investment in jeopardy.
