«Calum's pov»

I felt her hands trail across my chest, fingertips grazing my bare skin. Her hair cascaded down her back, resting on the mattress. I ran my fingers through the strands, her eyelids fluttering shut every time I repeated the action. She was definitely tired, I could feel it through her.

"Let's sleep." I quietly said, feeling her nod, curling up even further to my chest. I pulled the blankets up, my arm wrapped around her waist. She tiredly yawned, eyes closing as her warm breath hit my skin.

"I think I might actually sleep tonight," I said, running my hand down her back. "Thanks to you."

This caused her to softly laugh, palm pressed flat against my chest. Her cheeks flushed as I heard her replay the previous events in her mind. It was crazy she thought of herself so terribly... Truth was, she didn't even do a bad job. Not that that truly mattered to me, I was surprised she even offered. I thought she wanted to take it slower. She keeps on amazing me every single day, Stella. She's truly a beautiful mystery- I don't know how on earth I ended up being the lucky one to solve her. But thank god I was.

"You're welcome, I guess." She slowly said, her led sliding up to rest over mine. I smiled, pressing a kiss on her forehead. She curled up even more to me, letting out a hum as her breathing began to slow.

"Goodnight, Cal. Thank you for the date." She whispered, pressing a lazy kiss to my skin. I gently squeezed his hip.

"Anything for you." I whispered back. "Goodnight, Stel, sweet dreams."

"You too." She mumbled out, before I felt her completely relax above me. I closed my eyes, focusing on the feeling of her heartbeat, beating against my chest. I followed it, and I matched it to mine to make sure she'd sleep soundly. When your heartbeat matches your soulmates, it calms them down. Stella doesn't know, but I've done that many times to make sure she slept well, because I knew she usually didn't. She never tells me about her night terrors, despite the fact I know what they are and how bad they get.

All I wanted was her to be safe. To be disassociated from all the bad in this world, she was worth protecting. She didn't deserve to see all the ugliness in this world, I wanted nothing more than for her to live a happy, trouble free life. She was too precious to be harmed. I hated seeing her anything but happy, it shattered my heart to see her in tears or in pain, I'd kill whatever takes away her happiness with my bare hands. No one was going to hurt my Stella...

No one.

My body jolted, eyes flying open as I was ripped from sleep, the second it welcomed me. My head was spinning as I blinked, tired eyes lidded from being woken by the loud sound.

That's when I noticed the absence in heat- the absence of her heartbeat beside me. I sat up, my eyes scanning the room. But she was no where to be seen in the room, her tired body didn't lay beside me any longer. I turned around, checking the time; 3:33 in the morning.

Kicking the blankets off my legs, I stood up. She was most likely going to the bathroom, maybe even getting water, but one thing caught my attention. I couldn't feel her presence anywhere near. She definitely wasn't close, I couldn't hear her train of thoughts or her heartbeat. She was far.

I walked out of the room, making my way to the bathroom in the pitch black. As expected, the bathroom was empty, the shower block empty, alongside the toilet. She wasn't here, so I kept waking, retracing my steps to the steps. I walked down the stairs, glancing around for any sign of her. When I reached the floor, I heard her heartbeat again, relief flooding through me- she was here.
