Jackunzel week 2016 part 7!

Lady Gothel had always known. Even when they were still children, it was clear that there was something there.

She remembered how they had first met, during the annual council meeting at Berk. Rapunzel had just turned eight the month before. And since she had begged so much for Gothel to bring her with her to Berk, Gothel had finally relented.

Gothel had known that the Lord of the North had a son of his own that was around Rapunzel's age, but never had she expected that they would have gotten along so well.

"What's your name?" Jack called up at her.

"It's Rapunzel," Rapunzel replied, looking down at him from her window.

"Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair, so I can climb the golden stair!" He hollered.

Rapunzel laughed. "Do you know that story, Rapunzel?" He called.

"No," she laughed. "Will you tell it to me?"

"Only if you come downstairs and play with us," he grinned. She nodded, rushing to go downstairs to the courtyard.

Lord Klaus had always known. When he had returned from that council meeting and he'd found the two excitedly chatting with one another, and a few months later, after they had returned to their home in the North, and Jack had asked if he could send a letter to Rapunzel through the castle's birds.

He had allowed it, of course. Even now, he smiled whenever he thought back to how excited Jack had been every time a letter had arrived from his new friend.

Klaus couldn't help the low chuckle he let out as he entered the room. "Jack, writing letters again?" He asked.

The ten year old looked up from his writing desk. "Yeah, I'm almost finished with this one." He replied.

"We're going to Berk in three days," Klaus commented. "You'll be able to see her in real life then, why not wait until then to tell her?"

Jack thought about it. "But what if I forget what I want to tell her by then?" He asked.

"What do you want to tell her?" Klaus asked.

"I want to tell her about today's hunt!" He said.

"Oh, about the bird that you shot down this morning?" Klaus asked.

"Yeah! Because the last time I saw her, I still was not very good at shooting with a bow and arrow."

"Well, you could write down your story first," Klaus said. "So if you can't remember certain bits you can always refer to it later."

Jack nodded. "Yeah." He grinned. "I'm going to bring my bow and arrow with me to Berk, so I can show her how good I am at shooting now!"

Klaus laughed. "I think she's going to be very impressed with how much you've improved." He said. "Have you read the letter that arrived for you last week?"

"Of course," Jack said. "Rapunzel said that one of her castle's knights taught her how to ride a horse- the horse is named Maximus, but it seems like Lady Gothel does not approve of it."

"Why not?" He asked.

"I don't know, she didn't say in the letter." Jack replied. "I'll ask her when I see her."

Hiccup may have been young, but even the young prince had always known that there was something between them.
