Mericcup week 2016 part 4

After hours of being trapped inside the cell, the door opened. A tall man walked in, a file in his arms. "Merida DunBroch." He said, sitting down in the seat across the table from hers.

"Who are you, and what do you want?" Merida growled, glaring up at him. Her wrists were cuffed together and locked to the table, if not for the chains, she would have happily snapped his neck already.

The man smiled at her. "I am merely here to help you." He said.

"Then why don't you untie me?" She asked.

"Because I'm not an imbecile." He opened the file, scanning the pages. "Fifteen years of training, capable of using at least fifty different guns and other assorted weapons, twenty seven confirmed murders- you're a very dangerous person."

"Get to the point, will you?" She snapped.

"You have worked with Hiccup Horrendous Haddock before," he said. "Another dangerous person, like yourself."

"And if I have?" Merida asked.

He reached into the file, taking out a photograph. He slid it across the table so she could see it. It was a photo of three little boys wearing school uniforms, playing football together.

Merida stared at the photo, mouth dry. "How did you get this?" She asked.

"I know people," he said. "And I also know people who don't have any moral code against murdering children."

Merida's eyes flared, and she tried to lunge at him. "You touch them and I swear to god, I will make you wish you had never been born." She snarled.

"Yes, I don't doubt that," he said, amused by her show of anger. "So, now that I have your full attention, I have a proposition for you. If you accept," he continued. "Nothing happens to the triplets. I will dispose of all the data I have on them, and we'll all part ways and never see each other again."

"What kind of proposition?"

"Nothing particularly out of the ordinary for someone in your line of work." He said. "And after I show you the contents of this file," he continued. "You will want to do it."

Merida looked through the scope. Hiccup had received her message, and had followed her instructions to come to the cafe. He was at the counter, ordering something.

"Well?" The man asked from the side.

"I can't get a clear shot now," she snapped at him.

"You'd better not lose him." He warned.

"With a hat like that, who could miss him?" She muttered, looking through the scope again. He was wearing a bright red cap, just as she'd asked him to.

He was making his way to a table by the pavement now. Merida grit her teeth. Her instincts were telling her that the file was a lie, that there was no way that Hiccup had been the one who had murdered her father. But the photos had looked so real, the video footage, the murder weapon was a gun that Hiccup frequently used as well.

But Flynn knew him, and he would never hide something like this from her.

"Take your sweet time," the man beside her murmured, irritating her. Oh, how she'd love to just shoot him in the eye now.

Hiccup leaned back in the chair, facing the building she was on. From here, she could get a clear shot at his chest.

She took a deep breath, taking aim. "Don't miss." He murmured.

"Don't worry," she murmured. "I won't." She pulled the trigger, firing the gun.

The bullet hit him in the chest, knocking him back. There was a scream- probably the waitress- and people were moving, effectively blocking Hiccup from view.

She got up, packing up the gun "Let's go." Merida said, walking away quickly. The man followed her away.

"I didn't think you'd actually do it." He admitted later as they climbed into his car. "It seems like the reports were true when they said you were efficient."

Merida stared out the window, ignoring him. She could hear the sound of sirens approaching already.

She could only hope that Hiccup had followed all of her instructions.

Flynn strode into the hospital, marching up to the information counter. "I'm looking for Harold Haddock, can you tell me which room he's in?" He asked.

"And you are his..?" The receptionist asked.

"Brother. Eugene Haddock." Flynn said quickly.

She tapped away at her keyboard. "He's in Room 374, third floor. Elevators are over there." She said, gesturing to the left.

"Thank you." Flynn said, flashing a dazzling smile before rushing towards the direction she pointed him in. He didn't take the elevators, opting to take the stairs next to the elevators.

He burst into the room. "Hiccup," he sighed in relief. "You're alive, thank God."

"Yeah," Hiccup said. "Just a couple of bruises and mild concussion."

"Bruises?" Flynn said, eyes narrowing. "Dude, Merida just fired a bullet at you, what do you mean you only got bruises?" He asked incredulously. "Merida never misses."

"Yeah, that's right," he said, reaching inside his shirt, pulling out the pendant on the chain around his neck. Flynn stared at the obviously dented pendant in surprise. "Lesson of the day, always follow Merida's instructions," he said. "Every single last one."

"Well, I'm impressed." Flynn admitted. "Still don't understand what she's up to, but, whatever it is, I'm sure she'll figure her way out of it." he shrugged, but Hiccup didn't miss the worried look in his eyes.

"Yeah." Hiccup muttered, tucking the pendant back into his shirt. "I'm sure she'll be fine."
