I walked down the streets of London listening to my favourite band, Bastille. The song changed to Things We Lost in the Fire, one of my favourite songs. It described my life perfectly. My parents died in a fire 3 years ago, when my house burnt down and I was now living with my uncle Martin. He was a great uncle, he was like my big brother in a way, because he was about 17 years younger than my dad so he was just a few years older than me. I was 14 and he was 23. We lived in a small house in the centre of London. As I passed the people walking down the street I saw kids with their parents and families, who had come to visit London. I began to cry as Dan Smith's angelic voice poured into my ears. A few heads turned my way so I quickly wiped them away and covered my face with my straight blonde hair. Dan had inspired me to start singing and playing the piano, I could also play the guitar a little. Martin always said that I was really good, but I never believed him. I reached my destination, a large block of flats. I pressed the buzzer for flat 21, my best friend, Sam's house. She was small and she had long blonde hair that reached her hips. I was always so jealous of her hair because when my parents died I had my long hair, cut to shoulder length and it has never grown back. The longest it's been is the length it is now, just passed my shoulders. The excited squeak of my best friends voice interrupted my thoughts.

"Hi Lil! Come up!" Sam squeaked. I laughed and opened the door. I hopped into the lift and it took me to the third floor. The doors opened and I ran out and opened the door to flat 21. Sam ran up to me and hugged me tightly.

"Hey" I smiled taking my headphones out.

"Okay, I've got How I Met Your Mother recorded and the pizza's on its way, I ordered your favourite, Hawaiian" She laughed walking into the living room.

I followed willingly. I laughed and sat down on her brown leather sofa. She ran into the kitchen and came out with two cupcakes with Dan Smith's face on them. I looked at her confused. I loved the cake but I didn't know why she's doing that. Usually we only do this on members of Bastille's birthday. I gasped and a large grin spread across my face. Today was July 14th. Dan's birthday.

"Oh my god Lil, I thought you'd forgotten!" Sam laughed handing me the cake.

The cake smelt amazing and it's temperature made me assume that it was freshly made. The steam coming from it made my glasses fog up. I didn't have terrible eyesight, but it wasn't the best. They had thick, brown rims with specks of lighter brown in them, they looked similar to Dan's. I wiped my glasses so I could see, before taking a bite of the cake. It was delicious.

"Mmm" I mumbled. "Did you make these?" I asked taking another bite.

"Yup" she laughed biting into hers.

She put her cake down and grabbed the remote and put on How I Met Your Mother. We loved this show, Sam loved Barney the most but I loved Ted, mainly because he looked a little like Dan. The buzzer went off and she paused the TV. She ran to the door and opened it. Letting the pizza man in.

"Thanks, just put them over there" she smiled and the pizza guy put the two pizzas on the table. "Thanks" she handed his the money and shut the door after him.

"Smells good!" I walked over to where the pizzas were and picked up my ham and pineapple one. Sam laughed and grabbed the other pizza and sat down on the sofa again. I joined her pressing play and my eyes glued the the screen.

The episode was half way through when I got a phone call from an unknown number. I looked at Sam with an unsure look. She nodded, pausing the episode as I answered.

"Hello?" I said shakily. I hated answering to unknown numbers.

"Miss Lily Coleman?" Said a woman with a very formal voice.

"Yes...?" I said unsteadily.

"This is the police," My heart skipped a beat before picking up in speed dramatically. "I'm afraid to tell you that your uncle Martin has been murdered. I'm so sorry for your loss" she said emotionlessly.

"W-wh-what?" I said, my voice cracking at the end.

"Please come down to the station immediately." She said slowly.

"O-okay" I said shakily.

"Goodbye" the lady said. The line went dead and I dropped my phone. Sam looked at me with a seriously shocked and confused expression.

"Lil? What happened? What did they say?" She questioned putting her hand on my shoulder. I just stared at her. I had gone into shock. I thought I would be crying but I wasn't. I just stared into nothing. "LILY!" Sam cried.

"Martin-he-he's dead" I said softly.

"What?!" Sam cried.

"I need to go to the police station" I got up from the sofa and walked out of the door. Sam followed me, running to keep up with my pace.

I stepped in the lift and pressed the down button. When we reached the bottom I stepped out, with Sam following. When I got out of the main building I sprinted as fast as I could to the police station. I heard Sam call after me but I ignored her. When I reached the station I was out of breath. I stormed through the doors.

"How can I help you?" A small woman, with her hair tied into a lose bun, said.

"My name is Lily Coleman" I said emotionlessly.

"Oh, okay, just go down the corridor and it's the first door on your left." She smiled sadly.

I nodded and walked to the room. I opened the door and a woman with blonde hair tied up into a tight ponytail was standing with her back to me.

"Ah, Lily?" she turned around, her face was slightly wrinkled.

I nodded and she motioned for me to sit down at the small table in the middle of the room. I obeyed her and she sat opposite me.

"I'm sorry about your uncle, dear" she said sweetly.

I frowned slightly, keeping a straight face. I was still in shock, he was the last remaining family that I knew. All of my other family was dotted around the world, not bothering to come and visit. "You do not have any other family that is fit enough to look after you, so we are sending you to a care home"

"What?!" I shouted finding my voice.

The tears spilled from my eyes, I finally cracked, I pulled my glasses off and wiped my eyes. "No! There is no way I'm living in a care home!" I shouted standing up from the table.

"There is no other choice, Miss Coleman" the woman said firmly.

I sighed, put my glasses back on and sunk down into the chair.

This was going to be a fun life. Sarcasm intended.
