In case you wake up before I do
And realize your hands are too small to glue me back together, are too tired to fix this sadness in my heart:
Know that I let you go
In case you find yourself screaming too loud only for you to be greeted with no response:
Know that I can hear you, but I am just too scared and sad and tired to answer the very question I ask myself
Will it get better?
In case you find yourself wondering if it's worth it:
Know that I know it is, but that doesn't mean that you should too,
love can be uneven that way
In case you dream of dreams without me:
Know that it is alright to chase what you want, even if I am not there,
We can't have everything, can we?
In case you try to wake me up from this nightmare that I'm stuck in:
Know that it is not your fault that I won't wake up,
Know that I am trying but at this point my limbs are anchors pulling me down as I desperately try to float
As I desperately try to hold on to you
In case you find yourself one foot out the door:
Know that I will understand if you leave, more than if you stay
Know that you shouldn't feel regret, or guilt,
love isn't enough sometimes
In case you wake up before I do
