It's been a day since my Flood post. It stopped raining for a few hours yesterday, so I went out and explored the flooded yard. Sorry for how long the video is and for the poor quality. I saw some snakes, and a whole bunch of crawfish, and when I was walking near where the edge of where the ditch is supposed to be, I saw a garfish. I'm going to put up a few more videos and pics that I took while exploring.
These are minnows swimming on the sidewalk.
That's a leech swimming on the road. I also so another one swimming in the yard later on.
This is a baby snake I found swimming by my grandma's car that I decided to follow around for a bit.
This is a whirlpool in the ditch where the water is being sucked into the pipe under the driveway.
This is the deepest it got in the yard, just above my knees, which is about a foot-and-a-half to two feet or so.
This is the dog kennel we use when I bring my dog to my grandparent's. Don't worry, there were no dogs in it when it flooded.
Here are some fuzzy caterpillars I found taking shelter on a plant. They're still there today.
This is the sinkhole in the driveway I mentioned in the last flood post, trashcan for scale and so no one steps in it on accident.
It rained all last night, so it's still flooded, but it stopped this morning and the water seems to be starting to move on a little. It's still really flooded though.
My mom woke me up this morning and told me to come see something outside. I rolled up my pajama pants and went out in the water with her, and there were freaking fish swimming on the gravel road trying to get to the ditch. These big huge carp swimming upstream like salmon, but on a road. I immediately went get dressed to try to catch one of these fish. This is the fruit of my labor.I stalked that dang fish until it got tired and then I scooped it up with that net. I kept it in the little pool for a while then let it go. I have a video of me releasing it, but I shot it on my mom's phone then sent it to my phone and by that time the video quality was so bad you can barely even see the fish in the water. It swam around through the yard for a bit before finding its way to the ditch. I also caught a tiny lizard!! I think it's a skink.
It's so cute though! I put it on a plant so it would be able to rest without getting swept away.
