Nova's POV
"Nova Royale."
I shuddered, opening my eyes to a blinding light until it dimmed down. I found myself in nothing, in complete abyss, that felt neither comforting nor unsettling.
"Yes? Yes, I'm Nova. But who are you? Or where are you?" I looked around into nothing. "Where am I?"
"You're everything, Nova Royale."
I scoffed. "Are you my conscious? Only I would say something as impeccably true as that. Or Grey, am I in Grey's head? I'm going to kill him for his conscious being a woman."
"Nova Royale."
"The one and only, lady. Wanna cut to the chase? Get to answering some of those good ol' questions of mine?"
"Enough, Bird."
That's when all games went out the window. Only one person ever called me bird, only one person was ever allowed to.
"Who the hell are you? Because you're not my mother."
"Oh, my precious cub, I am."
"You sound nothing like Minette." I snapped, "What is this? Some trick? Someone's messing with my head?"
I tried to fight to wake myself up, but only felt myself falling deeper into the dark abyss.
"What do you want?"
"It's what is destined. It is fate."
"I choose my own fate."
"I choose the right fate of my pack."
"Your pack?"
"The wolves."
"Wolves? Which pack? What wolves?" I was growing irritated now.
"All wolves, Nova Royale. But you were especially fated for a particular destiny. You were created for a purpose."
"A purpose? Fated destiny? You're making less and less sense, I-I don't know what you're talking about."
"In celebratory times you shall see, what'll become of the four-legged and what of thee, true prime's guidance and goddess's blessing, when all is balanced, we'll all have gained honorable lessons. For what is done, is done in heart, and what is done can never be done apart."
"Alright, that's it." I kicked and punched, lashing out in hopes to wake myself up. The woman's voice continued to eerily chant in my mind, beginning to fade, even as I came to.
"Nova, hey! You're alright." I felt Grey's strong hands on me, holding my flailing limbs still. "Hey, it's okay."
I sprang to life, eyes wide and sensitive to the light he'd managed to turn on at some point.
"What happened?" I asked in a panic.
"You trying to kill me in my sleep?" He took a deep breath, moving aside to give me some room, but was looking at me cautiously.
"I'm sorry, I was trying to-"
No, Nova. No more problems. We've dealt with enough and we still have a hell of a lot more to deal with.
"Merde, pet. What's wrong? It's been a few days and you haven't exactly been.. you."
I didn't want to tell him about the feelings I'd been getting, the urges that's been telling me to prepare myself for the biggest bang of all of this, because that part had yet to come.
"I guess everything's so packed in my subconscious, I've been having really.. vivid nightmares lately."
He relaxed a bit. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"We've dealt with kidnapping, fighting crazy brothers, and holding our relationship together. You really think I'd care to mention something as stupid as nightmares?"
"I care, pet." He tilted my head up, "It's not stupid." He kissed me softly before pulling back to look back and forth between my eyes.
"What do you think.. I was destined for?"
He gave me a quizzical look.
"I mean, do you think I have a purpose here? Apart from being Luna."
He smiled at me for a moment and it almost looked sad, or sympathetic maybe.
"Well?" My voice was small, barely audible.
"I believe the Moon Goddess brought you to me. I think that was your purpose. Not to be Luna, but to make me a better Alpha, to make this a better pack."
"But that has everything to do with being Luna."
"It has nothing to do with being Luna, Luna is just a title. But Luna can be what you make of it and there's nothing wrong with being destined for that."
"This is so confusing."
"It's you, pet."
I looked into his pale brown eyes, that spec seeming more green than usual. Or maybe, my eyesight had gotten even better in my healing process.
He caressed my face in his hand, "You're changing everything."
"Is that good or bad?" I laid into him.
"Depends. What do you plan to change?"
I held my face to his bare chest, tossing idea after idea over in my head. Tossing over the words of the lady in my dream.
"Whatever it is that I'm suppose to change," I said with uncertainty, "I just know it can never be undone."
He held me tighter. "Then don't change it, if that's what you're afraid of."
The urge hit me harder.
But.. what if it's for the best?
He held me closer, "Try to get some sleep. I'll be here when you open those pretty blue eyes."
