I ran past pack members of the group, even Pack-Nurse Mae who seemed to slowly be heading the same way I was.
To Nova.
When I burst open the door, I was to her side in an instant. "Pet?" I searched her body frantically, looking for anything. Some sign of life other than her faint heartbeat that had been near intolerable all this time.
She was squeezing her eyes shut when my eyes landed on hers. And when I spoke, I could visibly see her body tense up.
"Pet.. are you-are you awake?" My heart was heavy in my chest, beating so fast it only came across as a low hum.
I was finally going to be reunited with her, she was conscious. Alive. And I would be able to see those familiar beautiful, blue eyes.
And then.. they sprang open.
And they weren't my eyes. Not the ones I'd longed for.
"Nova?"
I realized, in all my life, I had never not known how to handle something. But the moment Nova had stepped into my life, things had become more and more confusing.
"It's really you.. isn't it?" Even her voice was different.
I sat by her side, reaching my hand out to brush hair from her face.. until she flinched away, leaving the empty space between us ice cold.
"What's wrong?" I moved my hand away, not wanting to frighten her further. "You have nothing to fear, it's me.."
Violet eyes met my own.
"It's Grey, your wolf boy." I sounded more as though I was trying to convince myself than I was her. "Are you.. okay?"
She started to sit up, but I put my hands up. "I don't think that's a good idea, you should be resting."
"Who are you to tell me anything?"
I was almost sure I heard her wrong.
"I've rested long enough, where am I? How long have I been out?" She sat up as oppose to my wishes. As oppose to her condition.
"Back on Aureate Moon land." I stood, understanding she needed some space. "Kalen brought you here unconscious. Do you remember anything?"
Her eyes narrowed in thought. "Kalen?" I could see I wasn't the only one confused.
"That's right," I realized. "You must know him as Gio, yes?"
"The rogue that saved me? What about.. Minette?"
"So you remember?" I didn't want to pressure her. "Can you remember what happened before Gio brought you home?"
"I need to see him."
I was almost baffled by her words. "You.. need to see him?" I'm sure my face was the embodiment of confusion.
Are you not as happy to see me, as I am to see you?
"Nova, before we do anything.. there's something you should see."
She looked at me with questioning eyes. "I'm going to see him and you won't stop me." Her voice wasn't angry, but it was definitely far from comforting.
It was harsh, strained.
"Pet-"
She sat up from the bed and slid her legs over the side. "Enough of that." She sounded exhausted, but surprisingly, not physically. Only as if she'd mentally worn herself out.
Perhaps she was.
"I'm only trying to help you.."
"You can help me by backing the hell up." She rose her head to look at me, eyes surely defiant.. but they weren't mine.
