All I could think about was his parting words before he'd left the room. They weren't as hopeful as I believe he thought them to be. They were haunting.

Augustine.. That's what she gave me..

What a selfish woman. To be wed under wolf law to one, yet to run off and not only marry a human, but to bare him a child. To leave and return a year later and allow me to believe it was because she was a boundless, free being. Though had only gone to bare the other man a child as well. A brother, a part of me, I knew nothing of.

Yet even though it felt like all I could think about was how deeply this woman betrayed me. How she betrayed the man she said she loved, who I so foolishly thought she did.. I thought of their pack doctor.

And the more I realized just who it was that he reminded me of. Why he felt so familiar to me, though I knew I had never met him before.

"Dad.." I breathed.

Could that be what they'd meant?

What she claimed to be the extent of her love and what he'd said she'd given him.. What had she done to all of us?

The doorknob turned and I mentally scolded myself for not being on guard and hearing someone approach the door sooner.

The sound of my heartbeat and the roaring in my ears had become overwhelming. I could hardly hear myself think.

"You haven't taken it.." It was the pack doctor. Augustine. "I hoped you would." His voice was barely above a whisper.

"You've been ingesting me with wulphed on account of my mother." My voice no longer sounded like my own. It was deep, hoarse.. angry.

He walked over, placing the back of his hand to my head. "We don't have much time. You have to take this." He handed me the vial of purple liquid. "Please."

"If she wants me dead-"

"You will be if you don't drink it." He looked to the door as if to make sure no one was behind it. "They don't know what it is."

"I don't know what it is."

He leaned over me to whisper. "The strength you'll need to get out of here."

I felt a part of my body calm down, as if it knew just what he was getting across to me, but my damn mind was raging with angry thoughts so much that I could hardly think straight.

"Fuck you! You're no better than them, just toying with your prisoners like you all do!"

"Keep your voice down!" He whispered loudly to me, looking to the door again. This time, he didn't a waste a second tugging my head down by my hair and getting the liquid down my throat in almost one swift movement.

I nearly choked, but managed to get it down to shoot him a few more of my lovely insults.

"You'll have to break the chains yourself." He said without looking to me. "This is the most I can do for you now. Give it some time and when the moments right, run. Call to your Alpha. And whatever you do.." He told me. "Don't stop."

I wasn't sure if I was losing it or not, but even with what he was telling me registering plain as day, all I could think about was hurting him.

And her.

"Where's your princess?" I grazed my the back of my elongated canines with my tongue. "Blood will spill before I leave."

"Something tells me the two of you will meet again. For now, lose this battle to win the war. You have a few hours before they return, use the time to recoup some strength. Try to think beyond the wulphed."
