Grey had pummeled him so hard, incised wounds sliced across Kalen's arms from how slick he'd grazed past icy snow, leaving a dent in the ground.

He grabbed him by his shirt, lifting him and in the same instant slamming him back down, creating an even bigger crater.

Kalen reached up for Grey's neck, but wasn't as quick as the side elbow he'd received to the face, before Grey decided to slide him off of the floor like a lightweight rag doll.

Just as he was bringing Kalen and his fist in towards one another, Kalen ducked, dodging Grey's blow and managing to kick him from in his crouched position below him.

Hitting Grey right in his abdomen and sending him stumbling a few feet back, it was as if Grey didn't feel a thing, coming back at full speed to land a good kick of his own.

Kalen went straight through a tree.

I could only hear two things after the gruesome kick. Grey's ragged, out of control breaths and the charge of his feet as he made his way to find Kalen amongst the rubble.

Just when his head jerked in Kalen's direction after hearing the crunch of wood and snow, a large branch swung and clipped Grey across the face.

When he slowly turned his head back around.. his eyes were raging gold.

I couldn't sit back anymore. "Kalen!" I could hear something in my voice, something I hadn't in a very long time. Absolute terror. "Run!"

I caught sight of Grey's eyes as he glared my way, sending a growl that was far past a warning. I would be punished for my betrayal. There was no question about it.

Just when Kalen turned on his heel, Grey caught him by the back of his neck, sending him to the ground like a piece of crumbled paper.

He attempted to get up, but when Grey kicked him in his rib cage and the crack resonated through the trees, I knew Kalen was in trouble.

He cried out in pain, turning over to his other side and Grey wasted no time in taking the opportunity to destroy the bones on his other side as well.

The gargled screams I could barely make out from Kalen alarmed me. He would be crushed from the inside out if Grey wasn't stopped.

Kalen tried to guard himself from any further assaults, but it only riled Grey up more to think that Kalen was putting up any kind of a fight.

He grabbed a handful of Kalen's hair at the crown of his head, bringing it up just enough for his knee to make a solid, full connection with his face.

The sound of his nose breaking was what pushed me to intervene.

Before I knew it, I was grabbing Grey, forcing him in a lock hold, lacing his arms with mine and keeping them drawn back.

He thrashed, attempting to send me up and over him, but I used everything in me to hold my ground.

"I'll kill you too, Kale! You know I will!" He tried to turn, snapping his large, elongated fangs at me. But even with such dangerous weapons just inches away from me, I could only pay attention to the venom in his voice. "I'll have your head and your brother's! Even if it means taking out the rest of you!"

"I know, Grey.. I'm-I'm sorry.."

He snapped them again, eyes like molten, gold lava as he spoke to me carefully, calculatedly.

"If you don't release me of your own accord, I will take it as a sign of treason.. and personally. Very personal."

I looked back and forth between his eyes, eyes I had never met before. This man, this part of the beast I had never encountered ever was threatening me.. and I.. I found myself afraid..
