22. Damn The Goddess And Her Moon .

Beta Audri's POV

I could hear Lynn running down the hall, before bursting open the private waiting room doors.

"Audri, I came as soon as I heard!" She rushed to my side.

"You didn't run all the way back from Havencore Territory, did you?" I lifted my head from my hands, tears on my face.

"No.." She sat down next to me. "Partially.." She eyed me. "Thats not important."

She did, she ran the whole way back.

"How is she?" She grabbed my hand, stroking it with her thumb.

"Not sure.. alive, I think. To say the least.." I put my free hand to my chest, feeling the scattered hearts of all our pack members. Something that happened during great times, whether good or bad.

And this, this was definitely bad.

"I left as soon as I felt it," Lynn shook her her head, closing her eyes, "I felt Beta Kale being removed."

"Thank Goddess it wasn't entirely from the pack."

She eyed me cautiously. "What if-"

"Don't say it." I stopped her. "Don't even think it. It's one thing to lose your rank, it's another to be taken from the pack. Alpha Grey wouldn't.. he.. he couldn't.."

"Audri.." She patted the hand of mine that she held very tenderly. "I heard Kale's wanted for treason.. you.. we both know what that means."

"We don't know what happened. It could just be.. a misunderstanding."

She tried to give me a hopeful smile, but I knew it was forced. "I hope your right. I don't want to lose our Beta either."

We both looked up to see Pack Nurse Mae returning.

"Nurse Mae!" Lynn jumped from her seat. "Wait, please."

We both huddled around the old she-wolf.

"How is she?" I asked. "How's Luna Nova? Will she be okay?"

"Is she awake?" Lynn questioned. "When will we get to see her?"

"Ladies," Pack Nurse Mae looked into both of our eyes, "She'll need.. time. A lot of rest and a lot of care."

"Nurse Mae.." I grabbed for her hand. "Please." I needed her to tell me. "How is she?"

I could see it in her eyes. She knew what I was asking.

"Will she make it?"

"I.. I'm not sure." She walked away from us and all that was left in her absence was the feeling of fear and anxiety.

A whole lot of anxiety.

"I think I'm going to hyperventilate. Say something distracting." I grabbed my chest, looking to Lynn.

"If she doesn't make it, Audri.. he'll end us all."

"Thanks." I smirked. "Comforting."

She grabbed me, pulling me away. "Come on, I know someone who might be able to help."

Alpha Grey's POV

"Nurse Mae."

"Alpha." She stood from Nova's side, bowing her head to me. "How are you?"

I couldn't bring myself to answer. "Has her status changed?"

"No, sir." She looked down to the frail body of my supernova. "Still in a coma-like state. I fear that's the only thing keeping her.." She let her sentence trail off once she seen the look on my face.

Though I wasn't sure how I looked to her, I could tell it clearly wasn't pleasant.

"I'll leave you alone." She bowed her head once more before leaving. "Luna, Alpha." She said, then closed the door.

I hated how off-putting my energy was. I hated how it ran everyone off, including Pack Nurse Mae who was damned there the most fearless of us all.

I hated it, because I knew once they were gone, I would be left to face this.. to face her.

I slowly turned my gaze to edge of the bed, trailing it slowly over her body, and cringing at how still and lifeless she looked. And when my eyes finally landed on her face, I felt myself break down.

I came to my knees.

"I'm.. I'm so sorry, No-" I felt my heart constrict.

I wasn't even able to speak her name.

"It wasn't suppose to be like this.." I slowly made my way to her side. "I never intended.." I couldn't form a coherent sentence, I couldn't think straight.

"I've always been so sure of myself. So absolute in everything that I do, every move that I make.. even when you weren't sure about us, I was. I knew that I needed you. I knew there would be a time when I would need more than just your strength, your courage, your love. I need your life. I need it to be lived. I can't lose you, I refuse to lose you. I'll damn the Goddess and her moon before I let that happen. I'll call upon all packs of all territories to bring you back to me."

I sat up on my knees, hands finding hers and placing one to my heart.

"Can you feel it? That is all of you within all of me. We have only just begun, sweetheart, our lives together won't be cut short. You deserve so much more than that, than this.. than even me."

I kissed her hand, feeling the coolness of her skin and the light pulse beneath it made me sick to my stomach.

"I'm sorry for loving you the way I do, for allowing my love to trump my instinct. I knew better than to do this, than to risk losing you. But my love, oh pet, my love is desperate, relentless.. persistent. I will love you 'til the end of our time and, my sweet, our time is far from over."

I sat at her side, brushing the hair from her face.

"Lady Luna Nova Royale Du Val.."

I slid my free hand into my pants pocket, grabbing for the small box I kept stored away since first snowfall.

"I will love you in and out, whole and fully, unconditionally and for eternity, in this life and ever in the next. You are more than my equal, you are the foundation this pack has needed. I have needed."

I caressed her cheek in my hand, wishing I could see the light in those beautiful blue eyes.

"Your strength is my strength. Your love is my love. Your pain.. your pain is my endless torment. I have found solace, serenity away from the chaotic thoughts of my own damning mind.. in you."

I set her hand gently down, opening the small box to show her what lay in wait. What was hers long before I knew it.

"When you wake, my family's Wolven will be yours, because you are my family. You are my everything, pet. When you wake, I want to make and keep you the happiest wolf the world could ever know. The Moon Goddess will envy our love, if she does not already."

I got off the bed, getting down on one knee, yet making sure to keep her left hand in mine.

"Save me, Nova, and be mine in body, spirit, wolf and soul.. and in marriage."

I slid the bracelet over her hand, making sure the ring connected to it found her finger.

"Mālama, Nova."

I placed her hand to my forehead, feeling the etching of the stone against my skin.

"I just.. I need you to wake up, baby."

I kissed her hand.
