Grey's POV

"I should go after her."

"You should give her some time, Manu."

"When Nova's alone, trouble finds her."

"She's a Luna and a strong she-wolf, she'll be fine. Not to mention she's on our lands. Unless our lands are no longer safe.."

That offended me, but I held my composure. I would never disrespect my mother.. even when her bluntness tended to tease an itch I couldn't scratch, but damn sure wanted to.

"You don't trust that I'm the Alpha for the job." It was more a statement than a question.

"Don't be a fool. And don't forget who you're talking to. You know how I believe you're the best thing that's happened to this pack, even if you were not born to me, I'd think the same."

There wasn't any hesitation in her sentence, no waver of her tone that told me what she said, she really believed otherwise.

"I'm sorry, Ma. It's just.." I turned around, gripping the railing of the balcony, trying to look for Nova, "This one's something else. How can I help someone stronger than me? Someone even more complex than myself?"

"Because even knowing so, you still have one thing over her that could be beneficial to the both of you."

I looked over my shoulder at her, raising a brow. "What's that?"

She walked over to the edge of the balcony near me, "You've experienced dealing with a strength no one else has at one point and taught yourself to put it under a type of control that works best for you."

"Nova thinks control is having all these new abilities in check at once, all the time, 24-hours of the day, seven days a week."

"That is not the way."

"She's learning, Ma. It's me.. it's just, the patience it takes. The understanding person I never had to be. Sometimes I really don't know what to do or what I'm doing."

"Love her, Manu. Love her through it all."

"Oh, I do, Ma." I smiled, closing my eyes and picturing those deep blue eyes, so fiery and defiant, giving me a look that'd give anyone a run for their money. "I do."

"She loves you very much."

"Mm, yeah?"

"Her thoughts were very loud, like spoken words."

I chuckled, "She's still getting the hang of some things. But one thing I can tell you about her is she sure does fight well. That came naturally."

My mother's laugh resonated through my ears. "That I wouldn't doubt." She rubbed my shoulder, "All will be as it should, sweetheart."

"Can I-can I ask you something?"

She nodded her head once.

"What were you doing that day, when you ran into her? How come you didn't tell me yourself?"

"Honestly, I didn't know at first. I thought she was a lost human trying to find their way, until her scent set in. I wanted to help her, ask her a few questions, but she's so.. feisty."

I chuckled.

Definitely Nova.

"And with Audri?" I questioned.

This time my mother's whole body noticeably stilled, even her chest froze like she'd stopped breathing for a brief moment.

"How do you- Who told you? I-I don't know what you're talking about."
