Everything the sun touched was glazed over in a deep red hue as if the universe knew there was to be bloodshed today. A lot of it. As we advanced in numbers, my flanks.. no, my pack flanked both Grey and I as we moved hand in hand.
They know we're coming. In unison, both voices alerted me. Though neither of their tones had shown an ounce of fear. So neither would I. Good. I thought back. Then it won't come as a surprise to them when their Princess is missing her head.
When we made it over the enormous hill, The Royal Packhouse began to ease into view. Beautiful in all its glory, I silently made myself a promise that it wouldn't look as pristine leaving as we'd arrived.
"This is is, pet." Grey's grip on my hand tightened. "No turning back after this point."
I turned to him, staring at every line in his handsome face. Aged too soon with life's worries and wars. Yet still just that, handsome. Mine. Placing my free hand to the side of his face, I kissed him like I had never before. Not like it would potentially be our last time together, no.. but like I, a simple girl, saying the words a simple guy like him would want to hear.
I pulled away, wanting to look into those lazy, pale brown eyes as I answered. "No turning back." I shook my Wolven, "Til death do us part, wolf boy."
When realization dawned in his eyes, I couldn't mistake it if I tried. A thick, rounded tear formed in the corner of his eye and unashamed, he allowed it to fall. Kissing me deeply, he looked to the house of the royals in the distance and let out a growl that could've torn through the sound barrier itself. And that was our cue to charge.
When we made it down the slope that seemed to stretch on for miles by view alone, there were surely both armed and unarmed guards waiting to greet us. I could almost feel their want to shed the blood of my wolves. And I could only pray to whoever was listening that we would come out victorious and preferably without a large body count on our end.
"Come no further! If you do, all of you will be deemed rogues in the eyes of the Royal Court!" One of the many wolves standing guard spoke out, presumably the head wolf in charge of the group.
I may have not had time for the training I was suppose to get to take over the security sector of our pack, but that didn't mean I didn't know how some things about it worked. Like.. taking out the one in charge helped confuse and scatter the rest, making for easy pickings.
We didn't stop though. Not one of us, wolf nor single vampire hesitated as we moved in on their forces. And just when we were close enough to close the distance with a single leap of strength, that's when all chaos sounded off as wolves changed midair and weapons flew to meet them.
Kale was the first to get his hands on one of the royal guards, leaping still in human form and coming down with a vengeance on top of him. Twisting his arms in a way I could only compare to a pretzel, he wrapped about the man as gracefully as a ballet dancer would.. and snapped his neck.
The others I could hear tearing through flesh, crying out as the sound of silver and steel weaponry drove into them, and fierce growls of appreciation when they managed to maul off a few limbs.
Gamma Spear appeared almost miraculously beside me with a smile as he blocked one of the guards coming at me from the side, sliding into the ground he took him down, snapped his neck, and rolled to his feet only to keep running all in one swift motion. I reminded myself never to get on that man's bad side.
I looked over to keep an eye on Grey and he wasn't far off to my left, just rising from taking down two guards with both of his hands and immediately coming up to find my eyes. We nodded and continued, forcing our way closer to the entrance.
