"Where are the Luna's ranks?" I turned to Gamma Spear.
"They left this." He handed me a piece of paper with Lynn's boyish writing.
'Alpha Grey and Uncle Spear,
Audri and me have gone back to Havencore. While I was away on business there, I happened to stumble across a pack doctor. He's from the royal pack house, but when he's away, Havencore is where to find him. He has something we need, I know it. We'll be back before you knew we were gone. I.. We had to do this. For her.
Hopefully still,
Gamma Lynn.P.S. If she wakes while we're gone. We love you, Nova. And we'll be home soon.
Forever hers,
Beta Audri.'"Dammit, I need them to be by Nova."
"Where are you planning to go, Alpha?"
"Back."
"Back? Back, where?"
"The royal packhouse, where else?" I started to make my way to Nova's secluded room, one away from others.
"Alpha, excuse me for speaking out so bluntly, but I don't believe that's a good idea."
"Do you have a better one?"
"Not at the moment, but I'm sure we could come up with a smarter one."
I eyed him and he straightened out under my gaze.
"All I'm saying is that we should think things through more thoroughly. Luna wouldn't charge right back into them, she would arm her posts and set her guards, she'd know we were safest with home-field advantage. Which was surely a part of her strategy all along, wanting to bring her pup brother back here. Not keep him there."
"You think you know the Luna more than me?" I crossed my arms in hopes that would keep me from punching his lights out.
"When you're blinded by your rage and title and not seeing or thinking clearly, yes. Because in times like that, like this, I am level-headed."
"And I'm not?"
"Tell me, Alpha, are you not heading to the Chambers now to serve someone who was once one of us, their death on your bloody platter?"
I chuckled and was happy it'd throw him off.
"Alpha?"
I made the turn that would lead me to Nova instead of the Chambers. Nova, my beautiful supernova, who was all I wanted to be surrounded by. Definitely not the Chambers.
"I have much more important matters to tend to than death."
"And what's that?"
"Life."
I opened the main room's door and made sure it closed behind me.
"Pet.." I spoke softly to her at her bedside. "I wish that you could tell me what to do.." I shifted so that I was halfway laying with her.
"I don't think.. I'm so sure of myself anymore.. I keep asking myself 'What would Nova do?' But.. I-I don't know. I don't even think you would know, we-we act.. we don't usually think on these things. But this.. this requires thought. Planning. Input, your input."
I turned on my side, wishing for the millionth time that those comforting blue eyes, no matter how defiant they were, would open up to me.
I wanted to selfishly be the first thing she'd see when she wakes, the first person to hold her and welcome her to a sweet, homely return.
