"I didn't expect him to allow you to come."
"Pardon?" I knew it wasn't my words that caught the former rogue off-guard, it was how I sounded.
"The Alpha.. Greyden." I had to say his name, as something to hold onto. As a reminder to not let go of myself, because I so easily could.. that's what it wanted, the voice.
"What's happened to you? Your eyes.. they-"
"Are probably as different as I feel right now." I answered honestly.
In all truthfulness, I knew there was something about me that was different. Something that unsettled Grey far beyond my words, I could see it all over his face. But I was too afraid to look, to see what he saw.
To see the monster that broke his heart.
"Alpha Grey allowed me to see you, yes. But I know now why he made it a point to allow me only that. You want for something more.. do you not?"
"I see why he took you back in. You're observant."
"No, Luna.. I'm family. I've always been in." He closed the door, walking with a carelessness I somewhat appreciated.
Grey had been on high alert around me. But Gio, he seemed to not be as worried. And if he was, he surely put on a good front.
"It would be a good look, would it not, if you weren't to only get back into the pack, but to also make rank?"
That seemed to peak his interest.
"Be my Omega." I didn't have time to beat around the bush. I needed him on my side and to leave Aureate Moon as soon as I could.
"Where are your primary flanks?"
"Working on not being my flanks at all."
"Rather harsh," He took a seat opposite of me. "For their, so called, loving Luna."
"I am your Luna too now, am I not?"
He smiled and I could see a bit of Kale in him. Strange, considering I'd never seen Kale smile as much. Really only when bantering with Grey or the girls.
I smiled.
"Greyden and I," I shuddered at the sound of his name, "Have a very long history. But you, Luna Nova.." he leaned back comfortably. "You, I feel, hold my future." He smiled at me. "Why is that?"
"Because I'm the illegitimate child of royalty, who has been poisoned with Goddess knows what, and I just so happen to be the Luna of the very pack you know already has a bad reputation for being chaotic.. your pack. And I'm willing to lead every last one of you to war, if that means ridding myself of her before she consumes anymore of my life. Sum it?"
He chuckled and the sound was beyond refreshing. A sound I didn't think I'd hear, let alone be the one to cause it.
"Do you find me amusing?"
"I find you.. intriguing. You're different."
"Depends.. to whom do you compare me to?" I tilted my head.
"My lover." He answered truthfully.
"Oh? Should I be flattered or worried?"
"I bet," He leaned in slowly, "With what's coursing in you right now.. you don't feel an ounce of worry. Do you?"
I couldn't help the small laugh that escaped me. "Very observant." I said, just as the voice told me the same thing in my head.
Very observant, indeed.
