The Start of Our Adventure

We started heading to Yellowknife. This was going to be a long adventure. We decided we would walk until about two o'clock. Then, we would start looking for a place to set up camp for the night.
When it was about noon Valerie stopped and started to pass around crackers. "Three per person," she said. Everyone ate their crackers as we continued to walk.
Mike walked up to me so he was now walking beside me. "How are you doing?" He asked.
"It's the zombie apocalypse! My friend just died! How do you think I'm doing?!" I said it a little to loud. Everyone glanced over at me as a gesture to be quite. "Sorry," I said to Mike. "I've just been so stressed. I never expected this to happen, at least not in my life time. And to think, about a week ago it was just a normal day in school."
"Everyone has been stressed out. So, what grade were you in?"
     "Tenth. What about you?"
     "Eleventh."
"What grades were Valerie, Mark, and Jason in?"
"Valerie graduated last year. And Mark and Jason were both in twelfth."
     "So I'm the youngest here...great."
     "That's not so bad."
     "Why?"
"Because right now I don't think anyone is too worried about everyones' ages. I think we're more worried about survival."
"Survival of the fittest," I laughed. So did Mike.

"Okay this is where base will be for the night," Valerie said. "Maggie, Mike, and Michael start putting up the tents. Mark and Claudia, go look for fire wood. I'm going to dig a small pit for the fire."
Mark started walking walking in one direction so, I went the opposite way. I was about five minutes away from camp and had found two pieces of good, dry wood when I heard an "err" from behind me. I dropped the wood and grabbed my knife. I quickly turned and stabbed the zombie in the head. That was a close one.
I immediately picked up the two pieces of wood and started running back to camp. When I got there Mark wasn't back yet.
"Only two pieces of wood?" Valerie asked.
"Yeah, there was a zombie in the woods," I said through pants.
"Okay, we'll throw them in the hole." I did. Ten minutes later Mark came back with six pieces of wood.
"Good job, Mark," Valerie said. "Did you run into any zombies?"
     "No, why?" Mark asked.
"Claudia did. You killed it, right?"
"Yeah," I said. "Stabbed it right in the head. Speaking of which, can I clean my blade?"
Valerie tossed me the roll of paper towels. "Only two tops," she said. I pulled two paper towels of the roll and tossed it back to her. I wiped of the blade. The paper towels were now covered in blood.
"Where do I put this," I said holding the now balled up paper towels.
"In the pit, we'll burn it," Valerie said. I threw it in the pit then I put my knife back into its sheath. "Tonight the fire will only be lit long enough so we can heat our food and eat it. The fire will attract zombies and we have a long day ahead of us tomorrow." Valerie announced to everyone.
Valerie started to light the fire. She still had lighter fluid in her lighter. Wow, I thought. I would of thought that that would of been gone my now. "For dinner we're having canned tuna," Valerie said. "Mark and I are doing watch tonight."
"Shouldn't you get some sleep. You've been up for almost three days straight. I can handle myself and I'll wake you up if anything happens," Mark said.
"Okay but I'm back on watch tomorrow night."
We ate dinner and everyone starting heading into their tents to go to sleep. "Where are you sleeping?" I asked Mike.
"I think Mark and Jason have blankets in their tent for me."
"Oh yeah, we left the cots and mattresses behind. I forgot."
"I'm gonna head in for the night," Mike said. "Goodnight Claudia."
"Goodnight Mike." I got up of the ground and headed into my tent. Michael was already in there fast asleep. I took of my sheath and set it out of the way where no one would step on it. Then, I got situated under my cover. There was one below me, too. About five minutes later I fell asleep.

(A/N) The picture I chose for this chapter is what I imagine my knife would look like(Except for the rope at the top). I usually only post two chapters a day, but today there are three! Also, those of you who starting following me probably also noticed that I'm now following you. I will keep doing that for those who follow me. It is my way of saying thank you. Thank you for reading my story and have a great day!
