"Wow...I...think I...have...feelings for you too," I said. Mike embraced me in a hug. "So, are we going to make it official?"
"Yep." Mike grabbed my hand and we continued walking. By now we were about twenty feet behind the others so we speed walked to catch up to them.
"Did you read before the apocalypse?" I asked.
"Yeah. Dan Brown and Stephen King were and still are some of my favorite authors. "The Da Vinci Code" and "It" are my favorites by them."
"They're my favorite authors too! I loved "The Da Vinci Code". But, I never got I chance to read "It". I wanted to but the zombie apocalypse kinda got in the way."
"Tell me about it. I thankfully just finished the "Harry Potter" series before it started."
"Again, "Harry Potter" was on my reading list, but I never got a chance to read it. Damn you zombie apocalypse!" I shook my fist in the air. Mike laughed.
"What has you two so giddy?" Jason turned his head and asked. Then, he looked down and saw are hands interlocked. "Are you guys-?"
     "Yep." I said.
"OMG, CLAUDIA AND MIKE ARE DATING!" Jason said so the whole group could hear. Mike pushed him with his free hand.
Everyone stopped walking and turned. Everyone was looking right at us, then our hands.
"I think you got a keeper, sis." Maggie said. I face palmed with my free hand. She is such an embarrassment.
We all continued walking for three hours then Valerie said, "Start setting up the tents." Everyone expect Maggie was doing this. This time she was digging the pit.
"Jason, please go get firewood," Maggie said. Jason left.
"I'm going to go look for that town," Valerie said. She left.
We got the tents up and put our stuff in them. Same people together as last time. We were masters at this now.
Ten minutes later Jason came back with seven pieces of firewood. He threw them in the newly dug pit. Twenty minutes later Valerie came back.
"Found it. There are zombies, but not as many as there were at the last town."
Maggie lit the fire. We gathered around it and ate dinner. There was still about an hour of sun left before it set.
"Mike and I are going for a walk," I said.
"Be back before dark," Valerie said.
We both got up and left. We walked for about twenty minutes before we sat, leaning against a tree.
"It's strange that there's still beauty in this hell of a world," Mike said.
"Agreed. But, it's nice to get away. Even for just a little bit."
We sat and talked about movies we had both seen(especially "Harry Potter") for fifteen minutes. Then Mike said, "We better start heading back." He stood up and reached out his had for me to take. I grabbed it and got up.
We walked back to camp and said goodnight and gave each other a hug. Then, we walked into our tents and went to sleep.
It was good to get away for a little bit. I would thank myself for that tomorrow when I would have to continue living in this hell of a world and once again fear for my life.
