I got up as soon as the sun started coming up. I put on my sheath and left the tent. I walked up to Mike's and unzipped it a little bit.
"Mike!" I whisper yelled. He got up right away, he clearly didn't go to sleep either. "Come on." He got up and came out of the tent putting his gun in its holster.
"Where are we off to?"
"You'll see." I grabbed a backpack and put it on. I had prepared it last night when I couldn't sleep. "Follow me," I held out my hand and he grabbed it.
We walked in to the woods. The sun rising provided the just right amount of light. "Ok, we're here," I said about ten minutes later.
We were by a big oak tree. I sat down the backpack, opened it, and pulled out a blanket. I spread it out on the ground. "What's this?" Mike asked.
"Our first date." I sat down and patted the blanket. Mike sat next to me. I grabbed the bag again and pulled out two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. "I know it's not really a breakfast food but it'll have to do."
"It's perfect." He smiled at me. I smiled back. "Do you have anything to drink?"
"Yeah." I pulled out two juice pouches and handed one to him.
"I feel like a kid again. It's fantastic!" We ate our food and talked like a normal couple on a date would. That was before we heard the "err" of a zombie near by.
We both stood up on instinct and looked around. Then I saw it. Peeking out from behind the tree.
"MAGGIE!" I screamed. "Don't ever do that."
She started laughing. "I followed you guys and I didn't want anything to happen in front of me," she said.
"So your idea to stop something that wasn't going to happen is to make us think there was a zombie! We are not like that! Mike said. He was pissed.
"Yeah," I agreed with him. "Next time stay at camp!"
"Ok, ok I get," Maggie said. "I'm gonna head back to camp and pretend this didn't happen." She said, then left.
"I'm sorry about her, she can be like that sometimes," I said.
"Like that. You mean invading people's privacy without them knowing, then proceeding to scare the crap out of them!"
"Yeah," I said. I started to put everything away. "Help me shake out the blanket and fold it up."
"I'm sorry about flipping out. I had an older brother who moved to England and went to college there. And before he left I was dating this girl and he waited in my closet until we were in my room. Then, he scared the crap out of us. She then dumped me a week later."
"Oh..." I said. "You have rights to be mad. I can't stand it when other people invade my privacy." We started walking back to camp.
When we got back everyone was up. "Where were you guys?" Jason asked.
"We decided to eat breakfast early since we were up and you guys weren't," I said.
"We weren't up because Valerie decided to scream in the middle of the night, therefore screwing with everyone's sleep schedules," Mark said.
"Hey! It was because Maggie and Angel were playing clapping games while I was trying to sleep," Valerie said, trying to defend herself. "Anyways, we need to take down the tents and be ready to be on the move again."
Everyone had just finished breakfast by the time Mike and I had taken down our tents. Maggie quickly showed Angel, Will, and John how to take down the tents while taking down her own.
We started walking again. Everyone was really tired due to getting almost no sleep. But we continued walking nonetheless.
