I could feel the heat around me. I was on a platform made of metal. In front of me was a skinny, iron pole laid horizontally. I stood up and I walked to the edge of the platform. Below was a hundred foot drop into lava. The distance across seemed to be about ten yards. "Ten yards too much," I mumbled to myself.
I decided the best way across would be to put my legs on either side of the pole, sit, and slide across. I sat and began sliding. "Nice and slow," I said. About ten minutes later I had gotten across.
I was on another metal platform identical to the one I was on before. Suddenly a door appeared on the blank wall I grabbed the handle and turned. I pushed the door open.
In the next room I had to go up. The room must of been two hundred feet tall at least. It looked like I had to jump from platform to platform until I reached the top without falling to my death.
I stepped on the first platform. It felt sturdy. The distance between the platforms looked to be about two feet. I jump, when I landed I steadied myself out.
What felt like an hour later, I finally reached the top. I stepped of the platform and onto solid group. I looked down. Below me were trampolines that went downward.
I stepped on the first trampoline. I jumped a few times to get a feel for it. I jumped to the next trampoline, and the one after that. Twenty minutes later I reached the ground.
I walked up to the next door. I turned the handle and pushed it open. Inside were three signs and two buttons.
"Finally, something intelligence related." I said.
The first sign said:Who started the zombie
apocalypse?The second sign said:
Cannibals
The third sign said:
Scientists
Below the second and third signs there were buttons. I pressed the button below the second sign.
A door appeared on the left wall. I walked up to it and I opened it.
In the next room there were three signs and two buttons again.
Sign one said:Would you like to be
one of us?Sign two said yes, and sign three said no. I walked up to the button below sign three. "What if this kills me?" I asked myself. "I could just become one of them then leave. But what if turning into one of them kills me?" I walked over to the button below the second sign. I walked back to the second button. I walked back and forth for awhile, thinking about my options. Finally, I walked up to the first button. "I'll just leave," I mumbled to myself. I pressed the button.
"Prove it," a voice over said over an intercom. "Prove you would like to be one of us and fight by our side."
A door appeared on the left wall. I slowly approached it. I grabbed the handle, turned it, and I pushed the door open. What I saw in the next room was unbearable.
All of my friends were tied up to chairs. All the chairs back to back. They were on a rotating floor and there was a gun pointed toward them. Natalia was also tied to a chair. The back of her chair facing the rest. The floor they were all on started to spin. It finally stopped when the gun was pointed at Maggie.
"That gun has four bullets," the voice over the intercom said. "In order to prove that you really want to join us you have to kill your so called friends. If you don't shoot anyone or if you try to kill Natalia, then you and your friends will die."
"I'd rather die at your hands then have to kill my friends and be a murderer!" I yelled.
"Oh really?" The intercom voice said. "You wouldn't die the way your friends will, quickly. You will die the slowest, most painful death man can conjure. We will bind your arms above your head, then we'll slowly make small incisions in your body. While that is being done someone will stick blades under all your finger and toe nails. Then, someone will pull out all your teeth one by one. Finally, someone will slowly and delicately slice your throat open. You will bleed until your death."
I heard sobs coming from the direction of the gun, Maggie was crying.
"Don't think that you're the only person who had to go through this," the intercom voice said. "You can ask Natalia, she had to kill her closest friends, too. And she can also tell you she's happier this way."
I walked over to Natalia. "Is this true?" I asked her.
"I-I did have to kill my friends but I'm not happier this way. The boss never told me how unhappy and boring life like this is. I also didn't know every time someone new came along that the boss said was "worthy", I would have to sit in here and watch them kill their friends. I'll help you, these restraints won't hold me. We need to act fast though. There is a door in the back right, I'll free myself, then your friends and you can all make a run for the exit."
"Thank you," I said. "Are you going to come with us?"
"I can't. The boss has a chip in me that can track me. You all need to get as far away from here as possible. Get ready. I'm releasing myself in three, two, one-" Natalia said.
She burst out of her restraints and she started to rip my friends' restraints apart.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING? I'LL HAVE YOUR HEAD FOR THIS NATALIA!" The voice over the intercom said.
Ten seconds later everyone was free. "Come on," I said. I took off at a run to where Natalia said the door would be. It was there. I flung it open. Outside was a staircase. I sprinted up it. There was a trapdoor at the top that I pushed open. When everyone got out I shut it.
I didn't see Maggie. "Where's Maggie?" I asked.
"That guy got to her first," Angel said. "We need to go before he can get anymore of us."
"We need to save her!" I said.
"Claudia," Angel started. "She's probably already dead. We need to go."
"Where?" I asked.
"We'll stop at our house then we'll head a few towns west until we're a good distance away from this place," Angel said.
It seemed like Angel was going to take control as leader.(A/N) Thank you guys so much for getting this story to over 400 reads! That's amazing! You guys are amazing! I hope everyone has a terrific day and take care!
