The next day I woke up to see Maggie at the door of my tent. "Wake up sleepyhead!" She said.
"I'm up!" I shielded my eyes from the sunlight coming in with my hand. I got up out of the cot and combed my hair with my hand.
"Valerie, me, you, and Mike are heading into town in twenty minutes."
"Okay." I walked out of tent to see everyone sitting on the ground by the fire. There was no use in finding logs to sit on since we were leaving again today. Maggie handed me a pancake.
"It's from yesterday, but we heated it up over the fire." Maggie said. I basically inhaled it.
"Okay, Michael, Mark, and Jason take down the tents while me, Maggie, Claudia, and Mike head into town." Valerie said.
I went back into my tent to grab my knife. I put the sheath around my leg and fastened it. When I came back out everyone was waiting for me.
"Ready?" Valerie asked.
"Don't you start with the questions." She glared at me. She was clearly not amused. Maggie then handed me an empty backpack. Everyone else already had theirs on. We left camp to head into town.
About ten minutes later we were on the outskirts of town just out of the zombies' view.
"Everyone one ready?" Maggie whispered. We nodded our heads.
We ran in and start stabbing and shoot zombies. I had my knife. Maggie had her machete. Mike had his gun(which thankfully had a silencer). And Valerie had a hunting bow. Better than shooting animals I thought I she shot a zombie in the head.
Once about half of the zombies were dead Valerie yelled, "In here!" We ran into a store with hunting gear in it. "Maggie, fill your bag with as many jackets as you can. Mike, fill your bag with guns and ammo." Valerie said. Both Valerie and I went to stand watch by the door. Thankfully the glass wasn't broken unlike most of the other stores.
"We're good, both of our bags are filled," Mike said from behind us.
"Now just food and medical supplies," I said.
"Claudia, you and Mike go across the street to the drug store for medical supplies," Valerie pointed across the street to the drug store. "Maggie and I will go get food from next door. Meet back at the way we came into town in fifteen minutes. If one of the groups doesn't come back in time just head straight back to base."
Mike and I ran across the street trying not to make any noise. The display window was broken but the door wasn't. We walked inside and I pointed to the right to tell Mike to go that way while I went left. I grabbed band-aids and ace bandages. I walked over to the women's products area and I got pads and tampons.
Mike walked over to me. "Here," he said and handed me alcohol(the type to clean injuries with), gauze, gauze tape, and paper towels.
"We better start heading out," I said. We left the store and started running as quietly as possible to the way we came into town. We got there safely and undetected.
Two minutes later Maggie and Valerie got there. We all started heading back to camp. "What'd you get?" She asked me. I told her.
"You?" I asked her.
"Water, crackers, basically anything there that didn't need to be refrigerated."
Five minutes later we got back to what was camp. Except there was still one tent up. "Why is Nicole's tent still up?" I asked.
"In her memory," Jason said. "Mike can just bunk with someone else."
I didn't realize I was crying until Maggie said, "None of us wish it would of happened, but it did. So eventually we'll be able to move on."
"None of us will move on, we'll just learn to make it part of our daily lives," I said.
Mark pulled out a map. "Where are we going next?" Mark asked.
"Somewhere more safe than here," I said.
"Farther up North," Valerie said.
"Why?" Mike asked.
"Because cold will slow the zombies," Valerie said.
"But won't it slow us too?" I asked.
"Only slightly since we're prepared for the cold," Valerie responded.
"I guess we could of gotten food that had to be refrigerated," I joked. No one laughed. "I was just trying to lighten the mood," I said. We would need someone to lighten the mood on this journey.
