Chapter 12
* * *
Goddammit, Adrienne. Why would you do that?, I thought to myself the next morning once I woke up. He probably thinks you're some easy whore now.
In case you don't understand, lemme put it this way:
I "let him".
And it did feel amazing.
I was stupid and I asked him "what he meant." He showed me exactly what we meant.
I turned over to look at my alarm clock.
8:25
I had to meet Prince Royce at nine.
"Shit.", I quickly hopped up and ran to the bathroom and take a shower. After that I scrambled to get ready in time.
Sometime later, I was ready, with a pop tart in one hand and my purse and car keys in the other. I smiled a little when I noticed it was only eight fifty. Not bad, I thought to myself.
I quickly ran outside. This was a big opportunity and a great chance to give my daughter all she wanted and I could NOT mess this up.
I was about to get in my car when I heard a car horn behind me. I turned to see Prince Royce behind the wheel of a Mercedes.
He got out and waved me over.
"Get in.", he said. "I kinda have to take you since it's your first day as my assistant."
I did as he said but was confused. "How did you get my address?", I asked.
"It was in the employee file.", he said simply, getting in too. "But I'm going to apologize in advance...I'm just as new to this whole 'personal assistant' thing as you are. So don't be shocked if I come off the wrong way.", he said as he started up the car.
*Prince Royce's POV*
I had to admit, it was kinda weird driving through New York.
"So, where exactly are we heading?", asked Adrienne curiously.
"The studio.", I answered simply, turning at a corner.
Her eyes brightened a little. "Oh, really? You're working on something new?"
"Well, we're trying to.", I admitted. "I have a bit of writer's block."
Adrienne nodded understandingly. "Ah, I feel you."
It was about ten-thirty by the time we pulled into the lot. "Come on, we're in studio B.", I told Adrienne as we got out.
We entered and I immediately felt at home. Safe, even... if that didn't sound to corny.
Sergio was there and gave a smile when he saw me. "Geoffrey, ready to make some magic today?"
"Well, I can try to.", I said honestly.
He looked over at Adrienne. "And who's this?", he asked, wide eyed. "Newest girlfriend?"
I looked over and saw Adrienne blush and shake her head. "Oh, no." She put her hand out for him to shake. "I'm Adrienne Munoz."
"My new personal assistant.", I finished for her.
"Ah, alright. Well, it's nice to meet you Adrienne. Uh, you can just go right on to studio B, over there. Royce and I will meet you in a minute."
"Alright.", said Adrienne as she made her way out. I began to follow but Sergio stopped me.
"Everything alright?", I asked.
"She's your personal assistant?", he asked skeptically, raising an eyebrow. "What does she help you with? Sexual frustration?"
"Nah, Serg. It's not even like that."
"For real?"
I nodded. "For real."
"I dont know how you do it, man.", he said as we made our way into the studio.
And to be honest, I didn't exactly know how I did it either.
* * *
"Nah, that doesn't sound right either..."
"I know..."
"I don't even know where to begin. It's never taken me this long to write an album."
Sergio shook his head. "I don't know. I'm just as stuck as you are."
"Um, if you guys don't mind me asking...how many songs have you written so far?", Adrienne asked hesitantly, catching me off guard. She had been silent practically the whole time we'd been here.
"Only two.", I told her. "Or maybe three if you count the one with Selena Gomez."
"You're doing a song with Selena Gomez?", she asked.
"Yep.", I said as I started to file through a folder that contained the three written songs. I handed them to her and she began to look over them intently.
First she read the lyrics to "Nada", then "Already Missing You".
"These are great, why are you having such a hard time?"
"I don't know.", I said with a shrug.
Next she read over "Invisible". "Damn.", she said when she was finished. "That's pretty deep."
She handed the folder back to me and thought for a minute. "Well, I know my opinion probably isn't valid right now but where exactly are trying to go with this album?"
I shrugged. "I wanna do something different... but not too different to the point where the fans think I've changed, you know?"
She nodded. "I get what you mean. You want them to know que tu eres el mismo... am I right?"
"Yeah, soy el mismo..." I said under my breath. "Adrienne, that's perfect!"
"It is?", she asked, seeming lost.
"Yes, that same guy that my friends know me as. Quien te llamaba a las dos de la mañana y yo te contaba los sueños del niño...", I began to sing.
"Thats actually not bad.", Sergio pointed out.
Suddenly, I was filled with ideas for lyrics. "Oh my god, thank you, Adrienne. We've been at this for hours and now we're finally making progress."
"You're welcome. I didn't realize I'd be a help at all.", she said with a smile but it soon faded. "Wait, what time is it?"
I pulled my phone out and checked the time. "Almost two-thirty... everything okay...?"
She grew pale. "I know it's my first day working for you and all... but I need you to do me a big favor...", she said urgently.
