I look away from Chris, expecting him to say something that will help me decide, but he stays quiet and looks at the cards in his hand.

The phone stops ringing and he stays silent. Just when I sigh in relief my phone starts ringing again.

Before I can think too much about what to do, I grab the phone and answer it.

"What?!" I snap.

"Whoa whoa!! Keep your hair on please. Did I call you at the wrong time?" Eldridge's voice sounds shocked and confused.

I realize that I yelled at him for no reason, cause it's not his fault I'm in this stupid dilemma. A dilemma I can't even understand.
"I'm sorry" I say softer than the harsh tone I used ten seconds ago.

"Should I call again later? If you're not in a good mood I can call you back later?" He sounds nervous.

I look up at Chris and he just shrugs. He gets up and walk into his kitchen.

"No it's a good time. Why are you calling?" I ask Eldridge.

"Oh....I just wanted to know if you're free tonight, cause I wanted to take you out for diner" it sounds more like a question, because of the tone he uses.

"Cool. I think I can make it"

"Okay. I'll pick you up at seven?"

"Yeah great"

"And umm.....wear something nice yeah? Black?"

"Good. See you at seven" I hang up before he can say something else, cause Chris is coming back from wherever he went and it's super awkward to plan a date in front of him.

He has a box of juice in his hand. He refills our glasses and sits down on the same spot he was. His expression is not readable. I know he doesn't like Eldridge so I want to know if he's angry that I took his call.

"Are you upset?" The question blurts out before I can stop my self and I cover my mouth with my cards, but it's too late.

"No. why would I be" he asks. His facial expression assures me that he's not. Relief floods through me.

When I don't answer he asks "You thought I'd be upset because you picked his call?"

I nod.

"Well I'm not" he continues "My respect for your decision is bigger than my hate for him. You were right. I'm not the one to decide things in your life. It's up to you to make the right choices. I care about you no matter what and nothing is going to change that. I'm just worried about you not making the right choices"

"Thank you Chris" I smile at him.

"Yeah yeah. That doesn't mean I like him tho. I still hate him with passion and I'll still punch him in the face any chance I get" he says seriously.

"I know honey. Whatever. Are you sleeping here tonight?"

"Yeah I guess so. You staying?"

"If you are, I am too. Duuh! But right now I gotta go. I'll see you tonight" I inform him, grabbing my purse.

"Cool. What time are you coming back?"

"I don't know. You don't have to wait up for me. I might be late"

"Okay then. See you later"

I give him a kiss on his cheek and walk out of the house, knowing that he'll wait up for me no matter how long.

I need to get a new black dress in the mall for tonight. I wonder where he's taking me and why my outfit is supposed to be black.
I do have black dresses at home, but I still want to buy a new one.

I park in the mall's parking space and walk into the mall. I hate shopping alone. Too bad Megan couldn't join me.

I step into the first boutique I see and start my search for my dress.
While looking around I spot Selena in the same store I'm in. She's walking around the racks, looking around without touching anything. It looks like she's somewhere far away from here with her mind.

I decide to not bother her. The way she looks kind of tels me she doesn't need company, besides I know how desperate she is and I don't want her to start thinking shit again.

I walk around the boutique looking to find something else. I already have two dresses in my hand, but I'm not sure about them.

"Hey"

Turn around and Selena is right behind me, smiling nervously. Her voice is soft and warm.

"Hi Selena" I smile back.

"How're you doing?" She asks.

"I'm good. You?"

"Kinda the same. It was nice seeing you here. I'm gonna go and leave you to shop in peace" she says and walks away.

Well that was unlike her usual desperate self.

I walk over to the other side of the boutique and we nearly bump into each other, but I manage to dodge her in time.

"What? Are you stalking me or something?" I ask her.

She smiles nervously and apologizes. She was about to turn around and leave, but I stop her and ask "Are you shopping alone?"

"Yes I am. I'm not actually shopping tho. I'm just walking around"

"Oh okay. You wanna join me?" I offer. She looks a little off and I feel like something's wrong with her. I might not like her a lot, but my heart is big enough to care.

She smiles, the excitement in her eyes visible and nods.

"Great. What's with the sad face anyway?" I ask.

"Nothing really. Just not in the mood"

"I never knew you could get out of the mood" I joke.

While looking through another rack of clothes I pull out a beautiful pink dress. Not really my style, but it's very nice. Beautiful even.

"That is one beautiful dress" Selena comments.

"Yeah it is. You like it?"
She nods. "Then take it. Life is too short to leave beautiful things behind"

"Oh no..... I can't afford that. Besides I have a lot of dresses at home" she says and looks down.

Something tells me that the last part of her sentence isn't true, so I decide to push it a little further.

"Dresses like the one you wore at my party"

She looks at me like she's totally confused about what I just said.

"What?" I ask. "You forgot about it already?"

"What are you talking about? You send me that dress"

I look at her convincing myself that she's mad.

What does she mean by "You send me that dress?"
