Emily POV

I had swim practice last period at school. It was a good session. Swimming lets me feel free, it lets me feel I control, like I'm unstoppable and no one can touch me, even if it is only for a few seconds. I finished training, showered and went to the changing rooms to get dressed. I opened my locker and a note fell out.

Don't worry Em, you'll find a new friend to kiss-A

My heart sunk and I turned around to see if anyone was around, but there wasn't. Who put this in my locker? I had an idea, but it couldn't possibly be right. I admitted to myself a long time ago that she was dead. But who else could have but this in my locker, no one knew about this except me and Alison. It was too much for me to try and think about at that moment so I crumpled it up and put the note in the bin. I got dressed and headed to Maya's house, as I'd promised to help her finish unpacking.

I arrived at her house and she answered the door with a huge smile on her face. "Emily!" She exclaimed ecstatically. She was clearly happy to see me.

"Omg you have no idea how bored I've been today. I'm so glad your here"

"Yeah well, I've had a pretty boring day too. Math, English, chemistry and ap Spanish."

"Oh yeah that is boring"

"Well I have something fun we can do later if you want"

"Yes, tell me I'll do anything"

"Okay, so this guy in our school called Noel throws parties at his cabin all the time, wanna come?"

"Yes sure sounds fun" she said with a smile. We went upstairs and started unpacking boxes. Loads bangs and crashes came from the back garden so I took a look out the window. The garden was full of construction workers. Maya saw me looking out the window clearly curious. "My moms a  cellist, so they are building a studio and basically digging up the whole of the backyard"

"Oh. Do you play?"

"Yes, but not the cello"

We unpacked for about an hour and then my mom called to see when I'd be home for dinner.

"I better go, my moms wondering where I am. I'll see you at 8 for Noels party?"

"Yeah, see you then"

I leaned in to hug maya before I left and she leaned into kiss me on the cheek. Our lips almost touched. It was weird. I felt that feeling, that fuzzy I feeling I felt when I was with Ali. We both laughed off the awkwardness and I left. I went home, ate dinner and got ready for Noels party. Aria was meeting us there and I assumed Hanna and spencer would be there too,but I didn't know for certain. 3 hours past quickly and it was already 8 o'clock. I left the house and picked Maya up and we headed to Noel's cabin.

When we arrived Aria was waiting by her car. I introduced Maya and Aria to each other, and then we headed inside. The load music masked the slurred voices of drunk teenagers and made people dance. We joined in, dancing, singing and drinking (a little). You know just a like you should at a normal high school party. Aria had disappeared off somewhere so it was just me and Maya left. She grabbed my hand and dragged me to the photo booth at the back of the cabin. "I love these" I screamed trying to make me voice loud enough to be heard over the music. Maya frowned and smiled obviously not understanding what id said. We positioned and got ready for the first photo. We pulled a mix of ridiculous faces and found each other hilarious. I turned at looked into her eyes, and she gazed back into mine. Without any warning she kissed me. But I didn't stop her. It was amazing. It was real. I felt something when I kissed her. Something I hadn't felt in a very long time, something I hadn't felt since Alison. We parted and she smiled and left the booth. I stayed inside for a few seconds and thought about what had just happened and then opened the curtain to follow her, but when I stepped out she'd disappeared. I looked around for her for a little while, but she was gone. She must have left. I got in my car and drove straight to her house. I didn't know what I was going to say but I wasn't going to say nothing. I had to tell her even though the kiss was... well I don't really know what it was but it couldn't happen again. I got to the end of her street and noticed vans of press and police and ambulances outside Maya's house. I parked up and ran to her house thinks something bad had happened to her. When I saw her I automatically hugged her in relief.

"What's going on here? I thought something and had happened to you"

"No I'm fine. But Emily it's about your friend Alison"

"She's back, I knew it. Is she inside"

"Emily...they...they found Alison's body"

I stood in silence as I watched in disbelief as the coroners wheeled a body bag out from the side of Maya's house. I didn't know how to react. My heart told me to burst into tears but my head told me not to. I'd already admitted the fact that she was dead to myself along time ago. But that note, the one in my locker, it gave me hope. But to have hope, that's stupid. Nothing ever turns out the way we hope they will. All the millions of questions that spun around in my head, made me feel dizzy and sick inside. -A. That's all I could think about. Who is -A?

I noticed the girls across the road and ran over to them. We all looked at each other with a face each as shocked as the others. We all hugged each other and it felt like old times. Except this time, Alison was gone forever.
