A throbbing pain in my skull pulls me unwillingly back to reality. Stretching my arms up over my head, I sit up with a yawn, but when the afternoons events flash through my head, I groan.
Opening my eyes, I prepare to get up and head back to camp. However, can you imagine my surprise that instead of lying on a leafy forest floor, I find myself back in our makeshift A-frame shelter. An ice pack is wrapped around my head, and my leg is neatly bandaged.
Awkwardly pushing myself up, I can't help but wince before stiffly making my way outside. I find the boys relaxing outside on some logs that they must have arranged as a seating area while I was out.
Logan and Jase cheer loudly as soon as they see me, running over, treating me like a porcelain doll, and each carefully giving me a hug.
"Thank god you're okay Remi! You scared the shit out of us!" Exclaims Logan,
"We didn't know what to think when Ty came back carrying you out of the forest. You looked so deathly pale, and there was blood everywhere!" Adds Jase looking at me in concern.
Huh, Ty came back for me I muse. Looking around at them I ask, "So, who patched me up? Cause they did a really good job."
Jase shakes his head, "Wasn't us, that was grouchy over there in the corner,"
Surprised, I glance over at Ty, but he has this strange expression on his face, and for once, isn't scowling at me.
Smiling in gratitude, I call out to him, "Thanks, doc, much appreciated!"
To which he returns a wry smile.
"Okay Remi, so now that you're up, do you think you could cook us some food? Cause last time the three of us cooked together, we may have set a kitchen on fire." Logan trails off hopefully, looking at me with puppy dog eyes.
"Hey!" Protests Jase indignantly, "I can cook! It's just that I don't know how to use the gas cooker! And you guys are the idiots who shouldn't be trusted within a mile radius of a kitchen!"
Glancing down at my watch to check the time, I'm shocked to see that it's already seven thirty. However, no other teams seem to have arrived yet. "Guys, how long was I out?" I ask,
"Well, Ty came back with you at maybe five-ish, I think? So maybe two and a half hours?" Logan ponders thoughtfully.
"Oh, that's quite a while," I say, and looking over at Ty I ask, "That's nothing I should be too worried about though, right doc?"
Ty looks at me for a while then speaks, "No I don't think so, I reckon the hit on your head, combined with the loss of blood and shock, just over stressed your body which is why you were out for so long. Please just try to stay out of trouble for the next day or two so that your body has time to heal, and then you should be fine, I think."
"Yes, sir!" I salute, "I'll do my best, I promise. Now someone go get me a gas cooker and some ingredients, and Jase and I will see what we can whip up."
Logan immediately sprints off, though Jase follows him to make sure we actually get the right ingredients to cook with and not just a bunch of random things.
"So where are all the other teams? They should be here by now, right?" I ask Ty, puzzled.
He clears his throat and replies, "One other team has arrived, they're on the other side of the clearing, you just can't see them from here because they're directly behind that clump of trees there."
He points and gestures to some trees. Now, looking closer and knowing where to look, I can see faint markings and colours from their gear.
"Oh, it's Purple team," I say. "I'm pretty sure they were the ones who went on the medium difficulty trail."
