The next morning, my peaceful slumber is rudely interrupted by something being jabbed in my face.
Poke. "Remi."
Poke. "Remi."
Poke. "Remi!"
Groaning in frustration, I roll over.
"Oi Remi! You sleepyhead, it's time to get up!"
I know it's Ty speaking, but I'm still not ready to get up just yet. So I ignore him and snuggle down even deeper in my sleeping bag. Though it seems as though he has other plans. I feel someone pick up my feet, lifting them up to grab the sleeping bag and pull it off of me. Tumbling ungracefully out onto the ground like an awkwardly shaped sack of potatoes, I finally open my eyes and muster up my most deadly glare.
Instead, I am greeted with a much too perky chorus of, "Morning sunshine!"
Scowling back at guys, I groan in protest. "What time is it?" Stretching out my limbs, I wince slightly at the pressure on my leg.
"Six." Answers Logan cheerfully.
I ogle at him in disbelief, "Six. In the morning." He nods. "What is wrong with you people? Who even gets up this early? Are you even human?"
"Hey, we let you sleep in, we've all been up since five thirty already," Jase chips in while holding out a plate of scrambled eggs and toast. "Here, I made breakfast."
Realising how hungry I am, I gratefully accept the plate with a nod of thanks. After scraping the last remnants of egg off of my plate, I head outside to find that all of our gear has already been packed up and strapped securely to the bikes. To my surprise, the other teams seem to be out and about as well, tidying up, eating, or just goofing around.
I splash some water from the container next to the shelter onto my face, hoping to wake up fully. A gasp escapes my lips in shock at how cold it is. Feeling a gentle tap on my shoulder, I turn and see Ty who's shuffling uncomfortably.
"Hey, how are you?" I ask with a light smile.
He returns the gesture, "Pretty good thanks. Listen, I just wanted to say thank you for last night. You know, for hearing me out and listening to my sob story."
Reaching out, I rest a hand on his shoulder, "Anytime Ty. Anytime."
"Oi you two! Get over here and help, would ya!" Yells Jase, interrupting the poignant moment.
The other two are in the process of untying the tarps from our makeshift shelter, folding and attaching them to the bikes. Exchanging glances, we quickly jump into action. We take apart the shelter's wooden frame as it shortens the time it takes to set up camp at the next location. While it's a bit of a mission trying to safely tie the poles to the quad, after a bit of re-shuffling, we get there.
As if on cue, the moment we're finished, the door to the hut slams open. It hits the wall with a crack loud enough to make me flinch. Denyt and his men step out, having timed their dramatic entrance perfectly. "Alright, listen up!" He bellows across the clearing no need for his megaphone, "I want everyone standing in front of me in fifteen seconds, starting now!"
We look around confused, not really sure why the theatrics are needed, but start jogging across the clearing to the hut. By the time the fifteen seconds are up, we're all assembled in front of Denyt.
"It is time for the first elimination." Denyt starts off, pausing momentarily as murmurs erupt throughout the group.
Since when are people being eliminated? And who's going home?
Raising his voice ever so slightly, "The first elimination is based on time, the level of skill shown, and your willingness to work with your team. Therefore, I must say that it comes as no surprise that the team with the lowest rank and that is going home is... Red team. Firstly, you did not work well together as a group. You were also the last team here. I hope you have packed all your things as a helicopter will be arriving shortly to take you home."
