Lee's P.O.V (Continued)
The sheer overwhelming panic that floods my system almost makes it shut down completely, my limbs not obeying me and their order to move, which leaves me standing there frozen like an idiot. "Remi!" I shout hoarsely, my voice catching at the back of my throat and can hear the others doing the same all around me.
But there's no response as she's sprawled out on the floor, her face deathly pale, her eyes rolling into the back of her head while her body spasms and convulses. Shocked at this sudden turn of events and utterly clueless not knowing what to do, we all just stand there like puppets without a puppet master to pull the strings. But then what I see next makes my mind spin, as not only does the newcomer jump to his feet and push past Jack and Em to get to Remi, he falls like a broken man to his knees beside her, cradling her head in his arms.
This could potentially all be explained, but what confuses me beyond belief are the tears that are streaming unabashedly down both his cheeks. "Remi... What happened to you?" He whispers shakily.
Finally having a name for him, the man he had earlier addressed as Wyatt, now takes his cue, steps forward and places a gentle hand on his shoulder, before whispering something into his ear. Nodding in agreement to whatever is was that he had said, the man picks Remi up as carefully as he possibly can and without a further glance in our direction, starts walking towards the door.
"Hey! Where are you taking her?" Asks Jack, though as much as he tries to hide it, the concern in his voice seeps through the staunch look he is attempting to pull off.
Holding Remi like she's the world's most expensive porcelain doll, the man halts and turns his head to look over his shoulder at us, "She needs help," he says quietly, "And fast." With that he doesn't give us the chance to reply but disappears through the door taking Remi with him.
Almost unconsciously I make a move to follow, but before I can do so I am stopped by Wyatt who places a hand on my shoulder, "The girl is in safe hands," he says calmly, "If there is anything that can be done, the doctors here at the facility will do it and she'll be back on her feet in no time. In the meantime however I really do need you and your friends help. But first Connor will take you to get freshened up and kitted out with some clean clothes because no offence, but the lot of you smell terrible."
At the mention of his name, one of the guys who had been sitting at the table stands up and motions for us to follow him, once out in the hallway he turns to us and says, "I'm Connor, firstly I'm sorry about Wyatt being so pushy, I know it must be a lot to take in but it's just that he's been real stressed out lately cause we screwed up and lost our lead. So now that you lot have turned up with so much untapped new information, he wants to get straight to work. But looking at you now, I'm assuming that you are all just wanting to get cleaned up and finally get a little bit of rest?"
Nodding mutely, I know that at this moment in time every single one of us is feeling like we could fall asleep on our feet at any second. Seeing the relief on our faces at his suggestion he chuckles, "Yeah that's what I thought. I'll take you to the dorms where you can catch some shut-eye. Wyatt's waited this long already so I say that he can find it in him to wait for a few more hours. After all, there's no point running you to the ground, because that will just result in missed or misinterpreted information anyway."
Having made his decision, he beckons for us to follow and then leads us through a maze of corridors and large open spaces, as he does so, the people doing their work stop and look at us in confusion as we pass by. Feeling somewhat uncomfortable under the sudden scrutiny, I'm thankful when we eventually come to a halt in front of a plain double set of polished wooden doors.
Punching the four number pin of two-two-five-two into a keypad, a light flashes up green accompanied by a small beep at which Conner pushes open the doors and gestures for us to step inside. Admittedly I am taken aback when I see the dorm, as it is wide open and surprisingly spacious but devoid of any personal touches. Taking up the main amount of space are the six single beds that have neatly been made and are spaced evenly throughout the room.
