Lee's P.O.V (Continued)

"Hey! You! Stop right there! You're not supposed to be here! Every one has been told that this corridor is strictly out of bounds to anyone who is not the doctors or myself! Doctors and bosses orders!" As he talks, he's marching purposely towards me and his hands move in a shooing motion as if trying to get rid of me.

While not certain about what I've done wrong, I don't want to offend the man any more by asking and therefore I duck my head in apology and start backing away slowly. But as I do, I've barely made it a couple of steps back in the direction I came from before I hear a quick, "Actually- wait, wait, wait, hold up for a second, are you one of the kids that is part of Remi's group?"

I nod hesitantly, chewing on the inside of my cheek as I'm still not quite sure where he's going with this, "Yeah I am? Why?"

Hearing the vulnerability in my voice, the hard look on the man's face softens. "Listen mate, she's gonna be alright, okay? I've talked to all the doctor's and they've all said that it was the stress on her body that just got too much for her and then-" He pauses, swallowing hard, "I'll admit that seeing me after I arrived probably didn't help either and then every thing combined, the pain, the exhaustion, the stress, it was all just too much and made her body give out."

Too out of it or too tired, I'm not really sure, but it's only at this point that I realise who the man is. This is the one and only Everett, Remi's apparently even more bad-ass older brother.

"-can let you in for a couple of minutes if you like?" He finishes off looking up at me expectantly.

Completely zoned out, I snap back into it, "Huh? Wait- Sorry what did you say?" I ask apologetically, scratching at the back of my neck in embarrassment.

Everett shakes his head at me with a small laugh, "No offence, but you need some sleep don't you? But anyway, what had I said was that if you want, I'll let you in for a few minutes, but before you say yes," he quickly says as he sees me open my mouth to speak, "You have to know that you'll have to go through the decontamination airlock."

My heart jumps at the thought of the opportunity to be able to see how Remi is doing and I eagerly nod my head in response, "Of course! And that isn't going to be an issue!"

Opening the door he gestures for me to step in without him, but before leaving he gives me one last piece of advice as he says, "Once I close this door, press the green button to your left. Once you've done that, just wait until the adjoining door opens and you'll be good to go inside to see her. I'll wait out here and give the two of you some space and only come in when I have to let you know when it's time to leave, okay?"

Waiting until he sees me nod and acknowledge what he's said, he then pulls the door closed behind him, locking me in. Looking around, I quickly locate the green button, press it once and then wait. Left in silence for a few moments, I begin to wonder if it is working or not, but then hearing a hiss of air it alerts me to the fact that the decontamination process is indeed being carried out.

So when a green light flashes above me and I hear the bolt in the connecting door to Remi's infirmary ward click giving me the all clear, I quickly push it open hurrying in to make the most of my time. Looking up from my feet to see where I'm going, my limbs suddenly turn to lead and I am stopped dead in my tracks. Because to be honest, I don't know what exactly it was that I was expecting to see.

When Everett had said to me that Remi was going to be alright, I think that my mind had automatically assumed that she would be lying in bed looking tired and weak but well on her way to recovery, or at least something along the lines like that.
