In the weak Saturday evening light, all I could see was the faint outline of Nico dancing through slivers of the suns dying rays. He didn't know I'd left the bathroom minutes ago and now danced to the low sound of the radio. I was waiting for the perfect opportunity. He smiled and spun like a child on a merry go round. Round and round our shared apartment.

The song slowed and I took the chance, slipping into his solo dance to make it a duo. Resting behind him I rested my hands on his hips. He jumped, but soon leant back into me. I smiled and swayed from side to side enjoying Nico's presence before me. I started humming with the song, my voice resonating through the apartment. Nico laughed and turned around. Wrapping his arms around my neck as I continued.

"You always did have the worst voice out of (G/P) cabin," he laughed. I scoffed.

"Wow, shoot me down then," I muttered. Nico laughed and closed his eyes smiling.

"But you have the best dance moves I have to say," he smiled. I chuckled and drew small circles on Nico's hips. Even being daring enough to rest my hands in the back pockets of his jeans.

"You're pretty brave touching my ass like that," he said lowly.

"I'm not touching your ass, I'm touching your jeans," I stated. Nico hummed and kept time with me as we swayed through the end of the song. The next one came on just as slow. Perfect for the waltzing we were doing.

In the dim apartment I couldn't help but think how bright it really was, even as the sun died out. Nico was a beacon of light brighter than the sun in my life.

"Hey Nico?" I asked. He hummed in response.

"Do you think the gods design perfect moments?" I asked.

"I don't know," he muttered.

"I think they do, cause every time I'm with you... it just seems too good to be true. Like, I shouldn't have something as perfect as you and this moment. This light, this song, this love between us. It seems too good to be true," I said. Nico smiled into my chest.

"Why so philosophical all of a sudden?" He asked.

"I don't know, I just feel like one day my luck will run out, and you won't be here anymore," I said sadly. Nico looked up his perfect brown eyes bearing into mine. A ray of light caught them perfectly. The iris turning gold and his pupil becoming an eclipse in the sky that was his eyes.

"You won't lose me (M/N), I can promise you that," he said. I gave a small smile and pressed my forehead to his.

"Then come back to me..."

I opened my eyes to the ceiling of my empty room. My hand felt the long cold side of the bed that used to be Nico's. My eyes welled with tears as I sat up. I drew my hand from the cold sheets and looked at the skull ring on my pinky. Nico's skull ring, that I'd never part with till the day I died.

"I knew my luck would run out," I whispered pressing the ring to my lips as I sobbed.

Nico left for a quest three years ago, and I guess the gods decided perfect endings don't exist.
