Chapter 15

"I've only been told your name once and mother never spoken about you ever since you abandoned her." I kept my head down and clenched my fists. "I'm happy to finally meet you but from what I've been told from my mother, I just don't even want to be here."

"Amber. Give me a chance to explain. Please." I looked up at him and his eyes were filled with sadness.

"Fine. I'll give you one chance." I said.

"Good. Thank you." He smiled at me and took a sip of his tea. "Well, firstly, I didn't abandon your mother. After she told me that she was pregnant with you, I was over-joyed. However, a year had passed since you had been born and I had went out to the store but I was attacked on the way there. They hit me over the head, stole everything I had on me and then drove my lifeless body into the woods and left me there. I bled to death within hours and I'm still not sure what happened to my body after that. When I woke up, I was dead and I had a chain in the middle of my chest. I then ran home to see your mother in tears. I tried to talk to her but she couldn't see me. She then started to believe that I had left her. I didn't mean for it to happen. I tried to apologize to her but she couldn't see me. A week later and I was wondering the streets, looking for your mother. All of a sudden, a soul reaper appeared in front of me and said I was going to the soul society. I was then brought here and I've worked my way up, as soon as I became a soul reaper, all I wanted to do was get a mission that would take me to the world of the living but when I got one, it was a year after I had became a soul reaper so when I got to the world of the living, I went looking for your mother but when I got to our house, she wasn't there. She sold the house and moved out. There was another family living there. I searched everywhere for her but I couldn't find her. A month had passed and my mission was almost over. I got to the last part of our town when I finally found her. I followed her to her new home but when I got there, there was a little girl, which was you, and a new man. Her new husband. The husband I could never be. So after seeing her with you, her new husband and how happy she was, I realized that she had moved on so I should too. I left the house and focused on my new life in the soul society. I kept working my way up and got to captain. Now here I am and that is the truth of what happened to me."

"You... died... And yet she blamed herself for you leaving..." I had finally heard the truth and was shocked by it.

"I'm sorry for not being there for you. I really wished I could have." He looked at me with his sad eyes again.

"It's not your fault, f-captain." I realized what I was going to say and quickly changed it.

"I really am sorry, Amber. And speaking of captain. That's why you're here. So you can speak to me as a captain."

"Oh yes. I forgot."

"The reason that you're here, in the soul society, is because when Uryu picked you up for wanting to help you, he brought you to captain of squad 4, Retsu Unohana, and she saw that you're still a human so as they were all escaping from Hueco Mundo, she brought you with them. When they got back to the soul society, everyone was greeted by the head captain and myself, Retsu then brought you over to us and the captain said to kill you but when I saw your face, I knew it was you. I told him about what happened in my life before and he said that you would be my responsibility so I brought you into a separate room and had Uryu and Renji watch over you. Right now, some of the captains and their lieutenants are fighting some of the arrancars in the world of the living so I chose to stay behind for your sake. We can be together again, isn't that great?" I looked up at him and he was so happy.

"I'm sorry, father but I can't stay here." I looked at him with such sadness in my eyes.

"B-but why not? We've only just found each other again..." He really wasn't happy now.

"I can't stay because I don't belong here. If it was a few months ago then I would have said yes. I would have stayed but I have to decline your offer now and no, I'm not human. I'm turning into an arrancar more and more each day. I can't just leave that all behind and if I did, Lord Aizen would send the Espada here to, either, bring me back or kill me. I wouldn't be able to deal with the pain of people here dying because of me." He started to get tears in his eyes now. I stood up and walked over to him. I grabbed his hand and looked him straight in the eye. "I beg of you. Not as a captain but as my father, please let me go back."

"I've lost you once. Please don't make me lose you again." He grabbed my hand tightly and started to cry.

"I'm sorry, father, but I have to go back. If not for us, at least do it for me." He looked down in sorrow. "Once Lord Aizen sees my strength, he said I can see my family and friends again, and since you're family then..."

"Then I'll be able to see you again?" He finished my sentence for me.

"Yes. I'll try to contact you when I get to the world of the living and we can meet again. Me, you and mum. We can all have a day out together. That sounds nice, right?" I smiled at him.

"Yes. It does." He smiled back and hugged me.

"You have to let me go then. Just this once." I hugged him tightly.

"Alright then." He let go of me and stood up. "I'll take you to the world of the living. There's no doubt that there'll be someone there who can take you back to Hueco Mundo." He looked down at me and smiled. I smiled back and stood up.

"Lead the way, captain." I said.

"Come along then." He laughed as he walked towards the door. He opened it and walked out the room. I followed him and he brought me to a huge red door.

"Will this take me back?" I asked him.

"Yes it will but I'll be escorting you there. As long as that's alright with you though?" He asked.

"Of course." I smiled at him.

"Good." He turned towards the guards. "Open the doors then. We need to get to the world of the living." They both bowed at him and then opened the doors.

I'm on my way, Ulquiorra... I hope you're there waiting for me...
