As Jace drops me off, he gives me a wave and drives off. I head inside with a big smile on my face.
"What's making you smile that big? I haven't seen it in forever! OH! Is it a boy? It's a boy, isn't it?" My auntie starts running towards me.
"I don't know what you're talking about." I give an even bigger smile.
"Yes, you do! I miss that smile!" She gives me a big hug.
"I miss it too, auntie. It feels good to smile again. No matter the reason." I laugh and start to head upstairs.
"Dinner will be ready soon!" she yells, as I'm heading up the stairs.
As soon as I get in my room and put my stuff down, Riley comes barging in.
"What were you doing getting off Jace's motorcycle? Why didn't you call me to pick you up!?" she says.
"Whoa! Whoa! One question at a time. I skipped detention because Jace wanted to talk to me about last night. I told you what I did, and he was worried." I smile shyly.
"AWE, THAT IS SO CUTE!!" she squeals!
"I know. I had a good time with him." So, I tell her everything that happened.
"You don't feel like you can open up to me?" she looks at me with sadness in her eyes.
"I just... I just... it's hard. I feel like I could be judged for what happened to me." I give her a sad smile.
"You can always confide in me. I hope you know that I won't judge one bit." She gives me a genuine smile. Letting me know what she says is true.
"Ok, I will tell you a little bit of it."
*Flashback*
"Haseya, you know I love you." My mom was lying there. Pale and weak, but with a smile on her face.
"What's going on mother?" I cry.
"Please don't cry. You're too beautiful to cry. There are things that aren't in our control, and this is one of them. I want you to remember something. Remember what I told you. Follow your heart, my dear daughter. I love you." With that she closes her eyes and takes her last breath.
"No! No, you can't leave me mother! You can't!" I'm in tears. "I don't have anyone! Tsintah is gone! Tsela, Gaagii, and father don't understand! You're the only one I have!" They drag me away, kicking and screaming. Crying my eyes out, not knowing what to do. As they get me to a quiet place, I sob and sob. I have no one.
*End of Flashback*
"Haseya, I'm so sorry!" she says as I sit there, sobbing quietly.
"I wish I knew what to say or how to help you, but I don't. Just know, I'll always be here for you. What happened to your sister? What about your dad? What didn't he understand?" she asks.
"That's another story for another time." I say. Smiling sadly.
"Thank you. It feels good getting that out to someone. I know I should've confided in you earlier. It's just hard. I miss her so much. I was only 13. Thirteen! and I lost my mother. It's not fair Riley, it's just not fair." I start crying again.
"Dinner is ready!" I hear my auntie yell.
"Well, dry up your tears, and clean up your face sweetie. I don't want my mom asking any questions. And I doubt you want any either." With that, she stands up and heads downstairs.
I walk over to my bathroom and start cleaning my face. My eyes are all red and puffy. "Haseya, you can do it. Get yourself together. You don't want any questions." I tell myself.
After about 5 minutes, I'm finally ready to go downstairs. I walk downstairs and see everyone sitting down.
"So, how was everyone's day?" my auntie asks.
So, we go about talking about our days. Finally, it was time to go to bed. I get into my pajamas. As I lay down I think about the day. I decide to text Jace
Haseya: Thanks for today. I had a really good time. I hope to do it again sometime soon.
Jace: Your very welcome love. I had a good time also. We will definitely do it again soon.
Haseya: Well it's getting late. I'm off to bed. I just wanted to thank you! Goodnight ;)
Jace: Again, your welcome. Goodnight.
