Write about an alternate universe where you see the world in black and white until you meet your soulmate.

Lyric lived in a world of grey. Everything was the same. The walls were white, the floors were black, and that was the way the world was painted. Ever since she was a child, this has been how she has seen the world. Her parents have taught her that there are other ways to see things. They taught her of colors. An apple is supposed to be what is called red. Most of the time the sky is blue, but it also could be pink, purple, orange, or dark grey. Lyric knew of grey already. She didn't like to picture ever seeing it once she could see her world with new eyes. Her mother had taken hours to describe what their family looked like. Lyric had paid attention to every detail, cherishing the design.

Her eyes are brown, like chocolate. Her mother knew she loved chocolate; it was the perfect comparison. Lyric's hair is a darker shade of her eyes, with strands of auburn, which is like a red, and blond, which is like a yellow. Everything her mother described, Lyric caught onto and held it tightly.

As she grew older, she got used to the bleakness of the world. She no longer was impatient to find love and see the famous colors. She no longer grew excited when she met a new boy, because every time she waited, she was bitterly disappointed. Lyric returned to reality... and started her final year of high school.

It was already spring. She had sent out her collage transcripts a while ago. She anxiously awaited letters from over 10 universities. Now all she had to do was get through the rest of the year. She was planning on becoming a doctor, a surgeon, like her father. Her days were filled with books that educated her on anything and everything she needed to know for the practice. Her dad was proud that she wanted to be like him, but he always encouraged her to do what she wanted. She gave up on that dream a long time ago.

Lyric walked to her locker one warm April day. Her best friend, Chel, was already waiting for her, obviously bursting with some news. Lyric ran to her and grabbed her hands.

"Let me guess." She said enthusiastically. "You got a new dog?"

Check shook her head, her smile almost tearing in half.

"Cat?" Lyric guessed again, sarcastically. Another shake of the head. She made her voice a little higher pitched. "House?"

Chel laughed. "I wish." She sighed.

"Oh! I know!" Lyric bounced on the balls of her feet. "Danny finally asked you to prom!"

Chel's smile dropped. "No. And that isn't funny." Her smile appeared again, too happy for the mood to be brought  down by anything.

Lyric sighed and leaned her forehead against Chel's. "Tell me, tell me, please?" She whispered.

Check backed up and pulled a letter out of her pocket. She then proceeded to unfold it and read it's content. "Dear Miss Waters, We are pleased to announce..."

Lyric cut her off with all her screaming and jumping up and down. She tackled Chel with a hug. "You got in! You got in! Your going to the best art school in the world, baby!"

Chel tried to play it cool, brushing Lyric off, but her act couldn't fool Lyric.

"This is what you have been dreaming for since 6th grade, Chel."

Check bit her lip, trying not to smile to wide. "I know!" She half whispered. " I just didn't want to brag, you know..."

It took Lyric a second to realize that her best friend was talking about her. "You mean, since I haven't  gotton any letter back yet? Oh, Chel..."
