She thought she was following God's plan. She assumed she heard Him right when He said to leave him. She was wrong, oh she was so wrong. But she stuck to her decision, not knowing how to separate her own thoughts from God's. She wanted so desperately to follow His will for her life that she abandoned the only guy who would fulfill it.
She felt heartbroken. Her chest ached. But she continued with her life, begging God to heal her hurt. She found fulfillment in Him, like always, but she knew that something wasn't right. She did something wrong, she just didn't know what.
And then, months later, she saw him again. On the street, in the early winter. She hadn't spoken to him since she broke his heart. He hadn't tried to talk to her, she assumed he moved on.
He saw her from across the road, and in the misdt of the moment, lead by the Holy Spirit, he crossed over. She didn't know what to say. All the memories came rushing back.
Him asking her out.
The two of them spending time together.
Prayers.
Paint wars.
Laughs.
Snowball fights.
Talking about the past and dreaming of the future.
They were together and they were strong.
She pursed her lips as she allowed him to speak first. She didn't know what he was expecting, but her heart leaped out of her chest.
Him, my beloved. Him.
"Stella?" He questioned at her blank stare. She awkwardly looked him in the eyes. His vivid hazel eyes.
"Hi Blake." She croaked out.
He shifted back and forth and his feet for a minute before blurting out, "It kills me not to be able to talk to you."
She gasped. "Same. And, sometimes I just wonder if you ever stop and think, 'Man, I miss her'."
He gave her a half smile. "All the time."
They were silent for another strange minute. Then he spoke up again.
"God, I can't do this." He mumbled to the sky. He heart dropped to her stomach, but he quickly reassured her with his actions.
He grabbed her by the face and kissed her lips for the first time. it was short and sweet and modest. He rested his forehead against her and she was to shocked to move.
"You the girl, Stel. I've known it for a while." He murmured. "I let you go and chase God's calling knowing you would come back once you figured it all out. But I can't wait any longer. I need to talk to you. I need to see you. I want to spend all my time with you and I am never letting you go."
"Blake." She whispered. "I know I made a mistake. I just need to work on hearing God in my life. He just made it pretty obvious to me though, about you."
He smiled, revealing his dimples. "Then will you do the honor of becoming my wife?"
She nodded, fully aware of God's approval. "Yes."
