Chapter 18

I apologise because this is a filler but I think it's kind of necessary... You aren't ready for the plot twist that is coming.

Lili's POV

I don't quite remember when but at some point me and Nathan both fell asleep on the bed. I woke up with Nathan's arms wrapped loosely around my waist and his head resting on my shoulder slightly. He was so cute. I turned around to face him and his arms recoiled back to his sides but he was still sleeping peacefully, I wrapped an arm around his waist. I knew that at some point today I would probably have to do something important and I would require Nathan to generally accompany me and to explain things since no one else seems to see the importance of understanding things. After a moment or two of admiring his cute sleeping form, I decided to wake him up in one of the few ways he wouldn't get annoyed at me for because I woke him up. (Oh and did you know, Nathan sleeps topless?) I planted a kiss on the end of his shoulder and worked my way up to his collarbone. It wasn't long before he began to stir with a content smile across his face.

"Good morning." I whispered, dotting small kisses across his jawline.

"It most certainly is." He smiled. He placed a finger under my chin and tilted my head upwards so that he could kiss my forehead which he knew I loved.

"You're so beautiful." He said before smiling against my lips. The butterflies in my stomach had awoken and I felt very awake suddenly, he knew exactly how to make me feel calm and loved, he always had been able to do it.

"It's a big day today." He said whilst pulling back but there was reluctance there. He took a strand of my hair and twisted it around his finger gently, it distracted me very much but my curiosity got the better of me because I needed to know what he meant by what he said.

"Oh?" I asked because I didn't know what would be happening today, nothing fun I imagined, nothing ever was really any more.

"Today you have to do this big ceremony, it's mainly for the clan's benefit and not yours but it's quite serious." He said, which saddened me slightly knowing that everything was becoming real and important. Nathan also seemed rather agitated, probably because he didn't like the situation at all, neither did I but I had less choices than him in this situation. That frightened me, knowing that he could leave me at any moment but I'd be chained to here for my life and because I came to a realisation that I needed him a lot more than he needed me. It's true though, he left me and I couldn't function any more, I'm so dependant on him and I hate it but then again, isn't that what love is all about? Needing each other?

"What do I have to do?" I sighed while I buried my head by his neck.

"It's a ceremony to bind you to the clan members, it only really words for HD vampires but it is done for normal ones out of tradition too. The basics of it are: you have to cut your wrist and pour some of your blood into a big, fancy cup then the members of the clan will go up in turn and take a drink from the cup, thus binding them to both yourself and the clan." He recounted, he paused every so often to think and by the faint smile that appeared on his face subconsciously I could tell that one of the boys had told him what would happen.

"Gross!" I cringed, it sounded disgusting although I could feel my stomach growling but I didn't want to admit it.

"At least now it's clear what you are. A while back, before the council stepped in, there were a lot of issues for HD vampires. In many cases, the clan ended up trying to kill their supposed leader but the leader was too strong and an entire clan would be wiped out, all because they were leading the wrong type of clan. It's very important for a HD vampire to lead the right type of clan so at least we know where your soul lies." He said, going off what he was saying, he should have been happy but he wasn't. Then again, why should be happy? Everything was going wrong. He'd tried his best to protect me from this world but I ruined that, he tried to save me and I just shouted at him for it, it seems like he can't do right from doing wrong. I felt bad about that but I can't change the past, only the future so i decided to try and be a little bit more lenient with him.
