It was hot summer day. I was in my room, enjoying the cool air coming out of the air conditioner when my mom yelled upstairs. "Emma! Jake's here!" "Coming!"

Jake was my boyfriend. We've been dating for about 8 months now. He was one of the best boyfriend's anyone could wish for, but my heart belonged to someone else.

I walked down the stairs and spotted his blonde hair.

"Hey gorgeous", he said as he turned around. I smiled. "Hey." I pecked his lips. "What are you doing here?", I asked. "Well, me and the guys are heading to the beach in a few. I was wondering if you'd like to come with us", he said. I smiled. "I'd love to, but you know how insecure I get around your friends."

He rubbed my cheek with his thumb.
"You know there's no need for you to be insecure. You're the most beautiful girl", he said. I felt myself blushing. "That's what you think.." He shrugged his shoulders.

"If it'll make you feel better, Lily will be there too", he said. I smiled. "Okay that makes it a little better. I'm coming, just give me a second to get ready", I said. I kissed his cheek and ran upstairs.

Lily was my best friend. I met her when I was 6 years old. I'm now 19, so we've known each other for a while now. There's only one thing no one knows.

She's the one my heart belongs to. I've been in love with her for about 2 years now. I never told her or anyone else. Being with Jake is kind of a cover. I have no idea if I'm gay or bi, but there's one thing I do know.. She's all I want.

I put on my bathing suit and some clothes. I packed a towel, sunscreen and my headphones.

"Babe! Are you done yet? They're waiting", Jake said. "Just a second!"

I quickly braided my hair and took my ray ban's from my desk.

"I'm ready", I said smiling. He smiled back and took my bag.

"I'm bringing some water, do you want any?", I asked. He nodded. "Sure." I grabbed a few bottles from the fridge and threw them in my bag.

I opened the back door.

"Bye mom!", I said. She sat up and took off her sun glasses. "Have fun honey!", she said. She blew me a kiss and went back to tanning. I shut the door and followed Jake outside.

"Hey!", Lily said the second she saw me. My heart was racing and I felt myself turn red. She ran up to me and swung her arms around me. I giggled. We hadn't seen each other for 3 days. "Hey you!", I said.

"Beach day!", she said smiling. I smiled at her excitement. She pulled me with her. "She's coming with me", she yelled. We got in her car and turned up the music.

"We need to get a tan", she said. "Especially me. I'm so pale, it's not even funny!" I laughed. "You look great", I said. She looked at me and smiled.

Her smile was one of my favourite things about her. It was so beautiful. It was just a shame she didn't show it much.

You see, she has had a lot of problems in her life. Her parents got divorced about a year ago. Her father has a gambling problem, which got them to almost lose their house. Now she has got a full time job to make her own money, but her dad doesn't know about it. He'll just try and take the money from her.

Her mother lives with her new boyfriend, 6 hours away. So going there isn't really an option. They talk on the phone every now and then, but Lily isn't a fan of her mom's boyfriend.

So everytime she smiled, I cherished the moment. She knows how much I love her smile, and I make sure she never forgets.

"I'm glad you're coming", she said placing her hand on mine. I look up at her and smiled. My heart was racing. All I wanted was to just kiss her, but I knew I couldn't. It'd just ruin our friendship.

"Me too", I said smiling.
