"My dad has been stalking me. He's been calling me with random numbers, he's been following me around. I'm afraid to be by myself", she said. "You didn't seem to mind when I left earlier", I said. "I did, but I didn't want you to know. As soon as you left I just crawled into the corner holding a knife, waiting for him to burst in." She started tearing up. I pulled her into a tight hug and rubbed her back. "I'm just so scared Emma..", she said. "I know. Nothing is going to happen to you, I promise." She buried her face in my neck.
"Do you wanna head out? Get some fresh air, take your mind off of him", I asked. She nodded. "That'd be nice." I smiled. "Let me get ready real quick, okay?", I said. I kissed her forehead and ran upstairs.
I changed into something casual and applied some makeup.
"Ready?", I asked as I got downstairs. She nodded and grabbed her purse. We stepped outside and walked towards the boulevard.
"Do you have anything in mind?", I asked. She shrugged her shoulders. "I am kinda hungry." I nodded. "Let's get you something to eat then", I said. We walked to a group of food trucks and got a hotdog. "Don't you want anything?", she asked. "No I had a heavy lunch", I said and chuckled. "Lunch? Didn't you go out for a run?" I nodded. "Yeah, but I ran into Jake and we got lunch. Well, he got us lunch", I said. She nodded. "Was it nice?" I looked at her. "Yeah we had a really good time. We'll probably hang out every now and then." She frowned. "Isn't he, like, your ex?", she asked. "You know he is. What does that have to do with anything?" She shrugged her shoulders. "Nothing." She picked up her pace and ate her hotdog.
I jogged after her. "What's wrong?", I asked. She shook her head. "Nothing." I stopped her. "Yes there is", I said. "Babe, It's nothing.. really." I sighed. "Fine then."
We started walking towards the pier, but we didn't talk.
"I still feel like something's up", I said wrapping my arm around her. "Can you stop with that, please?" She pushed away my arm and hung over the railing. I stood next to her and hung over the railing as well.
"Is it stupid that I'm scared my dad will find me?", she asked. I shook my head. "No, it's far from stupid. I'm scared too, but i'll do anything to keep you safe." She rested her head on my shoulder.
"Do you wanna go in the ferris wheel?", I asked. She looked up at me and nodded. I grabbed her hand and we walked towards the ferris wheel. The line wasn't that long so we waited. "Aren't you afraid of heights?", she asked. I shrugged my shoulders. "A little." She giggled. "You're not gonna back out last minute, are you?" I shrugged my shoulders again. "Oh no, you asked me, so you're going in too." As the line started getting smaller, she pulled me with her and into one of the cabins.
I held on the the railing as the ferris wheel started moving. "I hate this, I hate this, I hate this, I hate this", I said repeatedly. Lily hit me with her elbow. "Just enjoy the view." I took a deep breath and looked outside.Suddenly we stopped at the top. "Oh no, no, no, no, no", I said panicking. "Babe, calm down. People need to get it, so they have to stop." I shook my head. "We're gonna die. I wanna go down", I said. "I wanna go down!", I yelled. The wheel slowly started moving, but stopped again. "That's the next cabin that needs to be filled up. We're not going to die", she said trying to calm me down. "Just breathe." I buried my face in my hands. "Let me know when we're back down", I said. She rubbed my back. "Look, we're moving already", she said. I slowly looked up and sighed. "Finally."
I stepped out and ran towards the end of the pier. I leaned over the railing and tried to get some air. "I can't breathe", I said as Lily walked up to me. "I'll get you some water." She walked to one of the stands and got a bottle of water.
"Here", she said handing me the bottle. I took a few big sips. "Thank you", I said catching my breath. "I'm sorry I made you go. I didn't know it was that bad." I shook my head. "No it's fine. I had to get up there someday", I said.
"Can we just sit here for a while?", I asked. She nodded.
