"What? Why not?", I asked. "Babe, this is something you gotta do by yourself. This is your dream, not mine. And as much as I want to be there with you to support you, I can't, and you know that. You have to make your own decisions, not me, not your mom, not anyone. If I'd be coming with you, you'd just ask me for my opinion, but it's yours that matters most", she said. I frowned. "What the fuck are you talking about?", I asked. "So you're not coming with me?" She shook her head. "It's better if I wouldn't."
I took back my phone and walked down the stairs, without saying a word.
"Emma", she said. "Come on." She followed me downstairs. "Emma, stop", she said. "What?", I said turning around. "Why are you so mad?" "Why am I mad? I got my first book to a publisher, with your help. Without you, I'd never even dared to send it. Before, you were my best friend, and you'd be so excited to be coming with me to New York. But now? You're coming up with some emotional bull shit I can't do shit with. I need you there with me. I'm 19, publishing my first book. Do you think I can do this by myself? I don't want to ask my mom, or my dad. This is something I want to share with you", I said. "But if it's that stupid, then never mind. I'll find someone else."
I headed towards to door.
"Someone else as in Jake?", she asked. I stopped and looked back at her. "You know what? Maybe."
I stepped outside and got in my car, letting a few tears escape my eyes.
"This is just bullshit", I said to myself as I started the car.

I waited at the gate until it was time to board the plane. I took a sip of my water and checked my phone. I hadn't heard from Lily since I left her house the other day. Still nothing.
I sighed and checked if I had everything I needed. My book, clothes, money. Yeah, I got everything.
"Flight 743 to New York will start boarding now. Please head to gate 12 and keep your plane tickets and passports ready. I got up and grabbed my bag.
"Emma!", I heard. I turned around and saw Lily jogging up to me. "Lily?" "I've been looking for you for about half an hour now", she said. "Great but, what are you doing here?", I asked. I looked down and saw a bag. "Are you going somewhere?" She nodded. "I was hoping the offer was still on", she said. I frowned. "New York?" She nodded. "I thought you didn't want to come." She sighed. "I do. I don't know why I said I didn't. I think something was wrong with me. Of course I want to come with you and support you. But only if you still want me to come", she said.
I stayed quiet for a little bit.
"Emma?", she said. "We gotta head over to gate 12." I grabbed my bag, ready to go. "So I can come?" I nodded. "You're here now, so why not." She smiled and grabbed her bag.
We rushed over to the gate and handed our tickets to the steward.
"Have a safe flight, ladies", he said. "Thanks", I said and we walked through the tunnel.
"We do have different seatings tho", Lily said. I nodded. "We got our tickets separately, so yeah." "Maybe someone wants to switch places with me", she said. "We'll see." I got to my seat and Lily went over to hers, waiting for someone to sit next to me.
After a little while, an older couple sat next to me. Lily looked over to them and sighed. She motioned me to come over. "Excuse me", I said smiling as I tried to pass the couple.
"What?", I said as I approached Lily. "I can't ask them to give up one seat. Maybe we can ask the person that'll be sitting next to me?" I shrugged my shoulders. "Sure." We waited for them to get to their seat.
A woman with two kids stopped at Lily's row. Lily rolled her eyes. "I guess I'll see you after the flight then", I said. She grabbed my hand before I tried walking back to my seat. "Are you still mad?", she asked. "Kinda. I mean, first you didn't want to come, then I didn't hear from you for a days and now you do want to come." "I'm sorry. How many times do you want to hear me say that?", she asked. "Until I get tired of it." I chuckled and kissed the top of her head.
